DESIGNING ONLINE COURSES WITH WORKLOAD, WELL-BEING and ENGAGEMENT IN MIND
SUMMARY
In this online program, you will interact with facilitators and peers as you move through the course design process. The design focus will be on maximizing student engagement and well-being while ensuring a balanced workload for you and your students.
Learning outcomes
By the end of this program, you will be able to:
- Identify the opportunities and challenges associated with teaching and learning online.
- Create a course map that outlines the knowledge and skills students are expected to acquire.
- Select instructional approaches and assessment strategies that will manage workload and promote well-being for you and your students.
- Implement educational technology strategies to encourage active participation.
- Recognize effective facilitation methods aimed at maximizing student engagement.
What to expect
- This program is offered entirely online.
- All content is provided asynchronously, with activities in Canvas spread across the 5-week period.
- Participants are invited to a 1-hour synchronous orientation session during the first week of the course (required).
- Participants can bring their questions to a weekly group discussion/office hours with CEE facilitators (optional).
- Timing of office hours to be determined in consultation with participants
APPLICATION PROCESS
To register for the cohort please fill out the Online Course Design Cohort - Expression of Interest form by the specified date (date to be updated soon).
Audience
This program is geared towards instructors who are actively designing or redesigning an OL designated course for delivery within the next year.
Date and Time
Typically offered February through March.
Time Commitment: The program runs for five weeks. Expect to invest a maximum of three hours per week on course related activities and interactions.
There is a one-hour synchronous orientation during the first week of the program.
