Contact Hours (CH): Sessional Instructors are compensated per contact hour (CH), plus 1.25 CH. “W” designated course receive an additional .5 CH. The contact hours offered to an SI are the same as the course’s credit hours, which is found above immediately following the course number. CMNS 130-3 is 3 credit hours, and including the 1.25 CH, the course is compensated at 4.25 CH. Using the May 1, 2024 salary scale, compensation per CH is $1,816, therefore for 4.25 CH the compensation is $7,718. Given that this contract is starting in the middle of the semester, the compensation will be prorated accordingly.

Course Specific Qualifications:

·      PhD in Communication (or PhD Candidate in Communication)

·      Demonstratable teaching experience in the forms, theories and institutions of communication as they relate to broader social change focusing on political, economic and regulatory shifts characterizing Canadian and transnational media systems.

·       Knowledge of best teaching methods.

·      Awareness of and experience understanding the needs of a diverse student population – in age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language and academic preparation – through inclusive course materials and teaching strategies.

General Qualifications (in addition to course specific qualifications):

·      Knowledge of relevant teaching tools is required, including Canvas and Microsoft Office Applications.

Required Employment Duties and Responsibilities:

·       Works closely with the Director or the Associate Director, Undergraduate Programs Chair, and with Teaching Assistants.

·       Delivers instruction, the content of which is approved by the Director or the Associate Director, Undergraduate.

·       Manages electronic and/or other platforms for the effective delivery of instruction.

·       Oversees Teaching Assistants while adhering to TSSU guidelines.

·       Holds regular meetings with Teaching Assistants to ensure continuity and cohesiveness in the course.

·       Undertakes the grading of assignments and examinations per the grading policies/practices of the school and, if relevant, oversees the work of Teaching Assistants to ensure that grading standards are maintained and that marks are both appropriate and uniformly applied.

·       Compiles final examination and Term marks and submits the final grades for students in the course.

·       Manages grade appeals, as necessary, in a timely manner.
