New online courses for creative writers of all levels

October 27, 2020

For 20 years, the Writer’s Studio program has taught and mentored hundreds of budding authors, many of whom have gone on to win publishing contracts and literary acclaim. In 2021, aspiring writers will have a new option for developing their craft, thanks to the launch of our 10-week online courses.

Each course will focus on one genre. Fiction 1Poetry 1, and Creative Non-Fiction 1 are designed for emerging writers, or those who have had no formal training. Level 2 in the same genres is intended for writers who have taken previous courses and are ready to advance their craft.

“We wanted to provide more learning opportunities for writers,” explains Andrew Chesham, associate director of the Creative Writing program. “A course is the best way to develop your craft, produce new writing, and provide deadlines for meeting your writing goals. By providing courses for writers at different levels, we’re giving students the opportunity to continue learning and make real progress in their writing.”

All courses will be led by established authors and offer students a chance to receive feedback on their writing in a supportive environment, while building a sustainable writing practice.

Registration is now open for Level 1 courses, which begin in January, and Level 2 courses, which will follow in April. Multi-genre courses will be added next fall, while a third level of genre-specific courses for more experienced writers is in the works for early 2022.
