The Faculty of Applied Sciences will be expanding its outreach programs across B.C. thanks to a new Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) PromoScience grant. Announced today, NSERC awarded the grants to 81 recipients across the country.

At SFU, this grant will be used to bring hands-on computer science activities, in addition to other STEM topics, to youth in Aboriginal, remote and at-risk communities. WWEST will develop an app which will enable outreach groups to engage youth in computing science activities regardless of their access to internet and up-to-date computers. Science AL!VE and Let’s Talk Science at SFU will support the delivery of outreach programs with this new app to 15,000 Aboriginal, remote, and at-risk youth in communities they already reach as well as expanding to new locations.
