Living the Questions: Religious Studies in a Secular Age examines how the study of religion can increase our understanding of others; that is, how it shapes the social, psychological, cultural, political, and ecological dimensions of life. Topics covered, include: an overview of the major academic attempts to clearly define religion; the theories and methods used to study the world’s religions; how religion has changed, adapted, resisted and assimilated the so-called “secular world”; and religion’s future, the growing demographic of religious worldviews that will inevitably form the world to come.

About the Author

Dr Jason M. Brown is a Lecturer in the Department of Global Humanities at Simon Fraser University. He teaches courses on religion and ecology, the great religious texts, religions in today’s context, and the relation between the humanities and the natural world. He has published widely, among his texts are Dwelling in the Wilderness: Modern Monks in the American West, (Trinity University Press, 2024); ‘A Short History of Monastic Forestry’, Forest History Today, Forthcoming Spring/Fall 2021; ‘A Spiritual Ecology of Apocalypse’, in Laura Duhan-Kaplan, Anne-Marie Ellithorpe and Harry O.
