In 2009, a Nova Scotia student was bullied at school for wearing a pink shirt. His classmates decided to support him by wearing pink t-shirts in response—and Pink Shirt Day was born.

This year, SFU students, staff and faculty are encouraged to wear pink on Feb. 26 as a promise to practice kindness and stand against bullying in all its forms. The theme for Pink Shirt Day 2020 is “lift each other up”: a simple but powerful message encouraging us to look beyond our differences and celebrate the things that make us unique.

In celebration of Pink Shirt Day, SFU campus security officers will be handing out pink toques and frisbees across SFU campuses. We encourage the SFU community to wear pink on Feb. 26 and show your support for ending bullying and harassment on campus, in the workplace and online.
