What should I do if I'm interested in multiple areas of study? 

The Faculty of Environment offers a wide variety of joint majors, double majors, minors and certifications—so you don't have to settle on just one area of study! It is also common for students to switch majors once they have taken a variety of courses. 

What is the cost to apply and when is the deadline?

The application fee is $82.60 CAD. You can see the comprehensive list of application deadlines here.

What are the admission requirements for the Faculty of Environment?

The admission requirements vary depending on which program you are applying to. You can learn more about specific requirements here

What should I do if I'm not certain oF my preferred area of study?

A good place to start is with your general interests. You have the ability to change majors or even transfer to different programs after you've been admitted and start taking classes. University is a great time to explore your interests! 

How much does tuition cost?

Your semesterly costs will depend on a number of things, including how many courses you take, the cost of books and supplies, if you live in residence and meal plans. Use the SFU budget calculator to estimate here.

What is the difference between a joint major and a double major?

Double-major programs consists of the major requirements of each of two subjects within a single degree, whereas joint major programs require a minimum of 30 units of specified upper division work in the joint major subjects.

What is a bachelor's degree?

A bachelor's degree is an undergraduate academic degree.

What is a graduate degree?

A graduate degree is a masters or a PhD, which is typically completed following the completion of a bachelor's degree. 

Will I have many job opportunities after graduating from the Faculty of Environment?

There is a growing demand for green jobs! According to Eco Canada, while Canada's employed labour force shrunk in 2020, the environmental sector added 35,000 net new jobs (5% growth). An additional 74,000 net environmental job openings will be created between 2020-2025—resulting in an 11% growth from 2020 employment levels.
