Accelerated MA Program

Complete 35 units: 17 credits of graduate coursework and 18 credits of thesis.

Accelerated MA students must take all of:

  • Ling 880 Advanced Linguistic Research for Professional Development (3) – second year
  • Ling 890 Graduate Seminar I (1) – must complete in first year
  • Four additional graduate courses of their choosing (12) *Consultation with supervisor recommended 

After students have completed the above course requirements, they can then enroll in:

  • Ling 898 MA Thesis (18) – second year
  • Ling 891 Graduate Seminar II (1) – must complete in second year

Students are expected to take most of their coursework in the first year of the Accelerated MA program. Research and writing the thesis should take place in the second year. Although there is no limit on the number of graduate units an undergraduate student can take for credit toward their undergraduate degree (as long as the student is approved by the department to take the graduate courses for credit), students will only be eligible to use a maximum of 10 graduate units, taken during their undergraduate degree, towards the graduate program.
