Synopsis
The invention of the microwave oven in the 1940s has greatly impacted society’s views on meal preparation. Invented by an American electrical engineer, Percy Spencer, microwave ovens utilize electromagnetic radiation to provide ease and convenience to people on a daily basis. This talk will discuss the invention of the microwave, how microwaves are generated for this purpose and the physics of how exposure to these waves heats food. By harnessing electromagnetic radiation’s power in the kitchen, we have come to develop the modern-day microwave; a perfect example of how when utilized, physics provides ease, comfort and advancements in daily life.
