Canvas Cloud
Starting in Spring 2026, all courses at SFU will be hosted on the new Canvas Cloud platform, which is based in Canada. Canvas Cloud transition is a collaboration between SFU IT and the Centre for Educational Excellence (CEE).
Support for Instructors
CEE is here to support instructors in this transition to Canvas Cloud. Students are supported by SFU IT.
For SFU instructors, CEE offers three ways of support:
- Scheduled workshops online
- Drop-In Support - Starting September to Mid December, CEE offers drop in sessions for specific technical Canvas Cloud related inquiries every Wednesday, from 10:00am - 12:00 noon at WMC 1300.
- One-on-one consultations – Email ceehelp@sfu.ca indicating the following:
- Your specific Canvas Cloud question or challenge
- Date and time preference
- In person or online
- Your specific Canvas Cloud question or challenge
Our team will respond to confirm your consultation appointment. Sessions are tailored to your needs—whether you're new to Canvas Cloud or an experienced user seeking advanced support. Our office is open Monday to Thursday, from 9:00am to 4:00pm for in person and virtual appointments. Appointments on Friday are virtual only.

Crowdmark
- To create a course in Crowdmark for Spring 2026 Canvas Cloud:
- Add Crowdmark to a Canvas module – click the + button to the right of the module name and you will see pull down menu option
- Within Modules link in Canvas Cloud:
- To sync grades/roster must be done through the modules link in Canvas.
- Throughout the add/drop period, instructors will need to “sync the roster” also through the modules link in Canvas
- FYI: Your students click on the link in Canvas modules to access Crowdmark (before Cloud students would access via a link within an email message)
- Instructors have the option to access crowdmark.com directly for:
- Adding TA’s
- Creating assignments
- Grading student work
- Accessing past on prem courses
- Instructors can toggle between Canvas Cloud course and Canvas on-premise courses (but they cannot create)
- (But if they’re not teaching in Spring, then they can access via crowdmark.com)
H5P
- H5P needs to be updated in the Canvas Cloud before the instructor can use it
- Instructors to contact CEE staff
