SCA in rEvolver Festival

There's great SCA alumni participation in the 2024 edition of Upintheair Theatre’s rEvolver Festival, which runs May 22 – June 2 at The Cultch, including: Jonathon Kim (lighting for Multi – Vs), Jami Reimer's Soft tongues: a bioacoustic opera (which has Czarina Agustines, Sara van Gaalen, Eve Middleton-Meyer, Lauren Han, and Ruby Maher as performers and Mena El Shazly as co-Video Editor, Bernice Paet as Stage Manager, and Maddy Woodly as Assistant Stage Manager), Sarah Hin Ching U's Silent Howl has Alexandra Caprara as Video Designer, Olympia Tomasta's Cloaks (which has Stephen Hass and Avery Chapman as performers and Wenwei Zhou as Stage Manager), Garvin Chan's What the F-Word is Going On? (which has Jesse Del Fierro, Samantha Walters, Eve Middleton-Meyer, Cindy Kao, and Brett Hubich as "Panelists"), The Midnight Parade is a collaborative project with Blake Hobson-Dimas and Tamlin Vetter, and Please Wait While We Connect You by The Troika Collective (which includes Aliya Griffin, Caroline Sniatynski, and Manuela Sosa). Prevailing Landscapes reviewed

Read Stir Vancouver on the exhibition Prevailing Landscapes, featuring work by the SCA's Jin-me Yoon and SCA alumnus Krystle Silverfox, which runs to June 22, 2024, at the Gordon Smith Gallery of Canadian Art (2121 Lonsdale Ave., North Vancouver), presented as part of the 2024 Capture Photography Festival. The Vancouver Improvised Arts Society's West Coast String Summit, which includes SCA alumnus Barbara Adler and The Only Animal​'s Slow Social #4 (featuring SCA alumnus Toni-Leah C. Walker in Knoxville

SCA alumnus Taryn Walker is posting images on their Instagram from their residency at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, funded by the Michael Smith Foreign Study Scholarship (which is administered by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada and SFU). Lum's Scotiabank Photography Award show

SCA alumnus Ken Lum, the winner of the 2023 Scotiabank Photography Award, is having his Scotiabank Photography Award exhibition at Toronto's The Image Centre (33 Gould St.), opening Wednesday, May 8, 2024, from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM, and running from May 9–August 3, 2024. Lum will also be giving a talk on Monday, May 6, 2024, at 6:00 PM in Room IMA-307 at the The Image Centre. More HERE.

SCA alumnus Jordyn Wood will be presenting Vascular Necrosis (in association with Bramble Theatre Collective) on May 9, 2024, at 7:00 PM at the Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre (181 Roundhouse Mews, Vancouver) as part of Realwheels Theatre's scripts-in-development play-reading series Zombies, Mannequins, and Talking Heads. SCA alumnus Eowynn Enquist and partner (and onetime SCA student) Isak Enquist are presenting "Rough Cut" – a 30-minute excerpt of their work-in-progress, Creature Comfort – on May 1, 2024, from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM a Dance Victoria Studios (111-2750 Quadra St., Victoria), presented as part of the Enquist's artist residency at Dance Victoria Studios. Mitsuhashi in Prince George

Santos English in Outro

Not only is SCA film student Sophia Santos English presenting Through the Flow of Summer Snow as part of 22 : 8, the 4th Year Film Screening + Installation event tonight (Friday, April 26, at 7:00 PM in the Djavad Mowafaghian Cinema here at 149 W. Hastings St., Vancouver, she has also shared a short, poetic text in response to Gallery Gachet​'s exhibition, A Canoe is an Island (on until March 22, 2024), via Gachet's new "online initiative," Outro series, curated by SCA alumnus and Gachet Director and Curator, Olumoroti Soji-George. Gallagher plays Gamelan

CBC Radio's Margaret Gallagher, who hosts North by Northwest, participated in the Javanese Gamelan Concert by SCA Instructor Sustrisno Hartana, SCA students, and the SCA's Ben Rogalsky on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, in the Djavad Mowafaghian World Art Centre here at 149 West Hastings St., Vancouver. Chimerik's Virtual Live Art Database Launch Party

Chimerik 似不像, which has SCA alumni Caroline MacCaull and Sammy Chien as co-artistic Directors, is holding a free Virtual Live Art Database Launch Party on Saturday May 4, 2024, from 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM at Q7 Studios (77 E. 7th Ave., Vancouver), presented by New Works. Space is limited, so RSVP HERE.

Speakable

Listen to the first episode of Speakable, the new podcast from the Faculty of Communication, Art and Technology and SFU's School of Communication, presented in partnership with SFU's CJSF Radio, which "aims to bring together research, teaching, and student work from across FCAT’s schools and programs," which includes the SCA. Robin Hood, East Van Panto style

Theatre Replacement (which has SCA alumnus Maiko Yamamoto as Artistic Director and was co-founded by Yamamoto and the SCA's James Long) have announced this years East Van Panto: Robin Hood. Set to run November 20, 2024 – January 05, 2025, at The Cultch's York Theatre (639 Commercial Dr., Vancouver), the holiday season seems that much closer already (but in a good way). More HERE.

SCA alumnus Amanda Sum's New Age Attitudes: Live in Concert (produced by Theatre Replacement) is on tour.
