SFU supports for teaching
Teaching support at SFU takes many forms including resources, workshops, and expert staff all which are available to SFU faculty, sessional/lab instructors, teaching assistants, tutor markers, and other instructional staff. This section attempts to compile many of these resources and is currently being revised.
Workshops
- Teaching and Learning Centre (TLC): offers instructional development workshops as well as writing-intensive learning workshops.
- IT Services: provides campus-wide information, communications, and business technologies
- Human Resources: offers learning and development courses for Staff and Supervisors.
- SFU International: offers a variety of workshops to enhance international experiences
- Library: offers workshops for faculty/instructors throughout the year. For current and upcoming sessions, check the online calendar.
Teaching Topics
Grades
- Interim grades via WebCT: WebCT can be used to display student grades as the semester progresses.
- Interim grades via MySFU: The mySFU portal can be used to send students their grades as the semester progresses.
- Final grades: The "Student Information System" can be used to send students their final grades.
Teaching and learning with technology
- Announcements via MySFU: The mySFU portal can be used by any department or group to make announcements. Contact the IT Services webmaster if your department is interested in having this capability set up.
- eLive: SFU's online audioconferencing system.
- Course email lists: Course lists are a type of maillist that automatically include the e-mail addresses of students with active SFU computing accounts who are registered in that course for the current semester.
- Publishing web sites/pages: You can publish your course materials as a stand-alone web site.
- Clickers (otherwise known as Personal Response Systems)

- IT Services has self-help files available to course instructors, an online survey tool, as well as online lab bookings.
- SFU Bookstore has forms and instructions for coursebook adoptions, contact information for publishers, and more valuable information.
- Centre for Online and Distance Education (CODE) offers resources for tutor markers and course authors.
- SFU International offers a variety of resources to enhance international experiences.
- Teaching and Learning Centre (TLC) offers resources for teaching and media services.
- SFU Library is dedicated to providing access to collections, services and facilities of the highest possible quality. It maintains specific Services to Faculty, a Media Resource Centre , and an Interactive online tutorial on Understanding and Avoiding Plagiarism.
