OUTDOOR/RECREATIONAL CAMPS

Girls Rock (7-9yrs)

Girls* Rock is designed to teach and foster learning and conversations about wellness, advocacy, self-confidence, and empowerment. Campers will explore and learn about topics through artisitic activities, active games, and team challenges.

*This camp was created for young girl campers but does welcome any young camper who is passionate about these topics.*

Junior (5-6yrs)

Junior campers will participate in a variety of activities in this camp! Each week can include recreational and co-operative games, creative arts & crafts, and stories. A great offerring for young minds!

Mountain Madness (8-11yrs)

Come join us as we learn about basic outdoor skills, local plants and wildlife, and develop an appreciation for the environment. Specific activities can include basic orienteering, shelter building, trail walking, and packing an emergency kit. Campers must wear closed toed shoes and be dressed for the weather.

Rec Reality (8-10yrs)

Are you ready for the challenge?
Based on popular reality shows, games, and other pop culture phenomenon, campers will race, perform, and challenge themselves individually and as a team during this action-packed and fun-filled camp. This is a great option for campers if they are too young for our Leadership camp but are passionate about learning and practicing leadership, teamwork, and collaboration. Possible activities include: Scavenger Hunts, Sharktank, and Team Relays.

Young Moviemakers Film Camp (8-13yrs)

Young Moviemakers is an award-winning acting and video production program for children and youth ages 8-13. Participants learn the importance of visual storytelling, scriptwriting, acting, editing and more, through the creation and production of a short film. With the help of our experienced film directors, participants work in groups to develop and produce their own film, which is then premiered to a live audience and uploaded to the Young Moviemakers YouTube channel to be shared and enjoyed.

Future Ready Minds (6-13yrs)

Future-ready Minds™ is a scientifically-backed, experiential learning program designed by child education and mental health experts to help children and youth develop the three key future-ready skills of innovation, collaboration and resilience. 

  * Please note: This camp is run by Future Ready Minds and will take place at The Greek Orthodox Community of East Vancouver.  

MINDSET MASTERS: (6-8 Years)

This program allows young leaders to explore brain science, mindfulness exercises, personal goals and positive mindset tools to help them develop an "I CAN DO IT!" attitude

Inventing, problem solving, prototyping, and technology literacy are key skills students need to succeed in our modern, fast-paced world. S.T.E.A.M'ers helps children to explore their curiosity and creativity, in a fun environment.

STEAMers Plus builds on the skills from STEAMers and challenges our campers with slightly more advanced science concepts and hands - on experiments in a fun and playful environment. Ideal for campers who have done the STEAMers camp before.

This program uses fun, interactive tools to teach reading fundamentals and comprehension skills required to become successful leaders. We work on the foundational skills in a playful way and use storytelling to keep children engaged.

CONFIDENT PUBLIC SPEAKING: (6-8 Years)

A great program for younger children exploring their language skills. They learn ways to express their big ideas and build their speaking skills through interactive activities, personalized coaching, and fun speech exercises, leading to improved confidence and presentation of their own fun topic.

TED-STYLE PUBLIC SPEAKING: (9-12 Years)

Gain confidence to express your big ideas! TED-Style Public Speaking is a great program for young leaders who want to build their public speaking skills with interactive activities, personalized coaching, and fun speech exercises, leading to their very own Ted-style talk.

FUTURE READY LEADERS: (9-13 Years)

Build key future-ready skills for innovation, social connection, and resilience! Young leaders will engage in a variety of activities to develop the 5 C’s of the Consciousness Quotient - Creativity, Collaboration, Communication, Critical thinking, and Contribution skills. They will work towards a passion project and present ideas on how to bring about social/ global awareness and change.

Entrepreneur Mindset is a great program for young leaders who want to practice their creativity and critical thinking skills by designing, testing, and pitching their innovative business ideas in a “Shark Tank” style presentation.

Leadership (12-15yrs)

Our leadership camp is designed for teens wanting to develop their leadership abiilities! Participants will practice skills such as public speaking, communication, and teamwork through a combination of discussion-based activities, games, and presentations. This is the perfect stepping stone for teens interested in becoming a future SFU Camps Volunteer or Instructor.

Pre-University (13-16yrs)

This camp will introduce campers to the dynamic life of an SFU student. Participants will be introduced to a variety of popular university topics, while also having opportunities to explore SFU's range of facilities and services. Specific lessons are determined by experitse/experience of instructor and are dependent on scheduling and availability of campus facilities.

Science: Junior (6yrs)

A new camp this 2024 season! Created for young campers interseted in scientific phenomena. Junior scientists will learn components from our four science camps and have the chance to conduct experiments and challenges to apply and further learning.

Science: Chemistry (7-12yrs)

Chemistry camp is a fantastic option for a young chemist. Campers will be introduced to various chemical concepts such as forensic science, states of matter, chemical kinetics and enzymatic activity. Lessons are taught through dynamic lessons, guided experiments, and hands-on demonstrations and will take place in a classroom and outside.

Science: Engineering (7-12yrs)

Engineering camp will provide the building blocks for mini engineers. Campers will be introduced to various aspects of engineering through fun and interactive lessons, activities, and challenges. Campers will develop their own memorable projects that they can test and take home. This camp will take place in a classroom and outside.

Science: Planet Earth (7-12yrs)

Planet Earth will provide a dynamic learning experience for mini Earth Scientists. Campers will be introduced to various topics such as Weather and Atmosphere, Natural Hazards, and Climate Change through hands-on demonstrations, arts and crafts, and creative challenges.
Lessons will take place in the classroom and outside.

Science: STEM (7-12yrs)

STEM camp is a multi-disciplinary camp intended to introduce campers to the wonderful expansive world of STEM! Campers will explore concepts in the classroom and then have time to apply the knowledge in activities and challenges around campus. A great camp to 'spark' a camper's appreciation for STEM!

SPORT CAMPS

Basketball Boys PM (5-13yrs)

Mini Dribbler Camp (5-8yrs) is a basketball skills camp in a fun-filled atmosphere. Campers will develop dribbling, passing, and shooting through a "Teaching Games for Understanding" approach.

Run & Gun Camp (9-13yrs) covers all aspects of basketball - team, individual, offensive, and defensive skills. Format includes skill stations, competitions, and games.

Basketball Girls AM (5-13yrs)

This basketball camp will focus on the fundamentals of basketball and athletic movement. We introduce the dribble, pass, shot and how to work as a team to play offense and defense. We develop physical literacy through learning games which helps build confidence, understanding and skill. All Camps are led by the SFU Women’s Basketball staff and team.

Field Lacrosse (10-17yrs)

Established in 1999, the SFU Field Lacrosse Camps offer an accelerated level of instruction for experienced and developing lacrosse players who want to take their game to the next level.
What's Included: on-field instruction (including position specific training) from college players/coaches, and a chance to win team gear. Every camper will receive an SFU branded pinnie.

Judo Camp (8-12yrs)

Welcome to Judo Summer Camp! Join us for 4 or 5 days of skill-building, led by experienced coaches and champions from Peak Judo. From throws to groundwork, we cover it all. But it's not just judo—we mix in games and challenges for a week of FUNdamentals in a safe, inclusive and supportive camp environment. Beginner and experienced participants are welcome. Soccer (5-13yrs)

Soccer camp is facilitated by the SFU Soccer team and includes coaching from team coaches, athletes, and alumni players. Each day will be divided into technical and tactical skill development, team building, with some World Cup games.

Note: Campers will be grouped by age and skill level. Note: This camp takes place outdoors and campers should come prepared in appropriate gear.

Softball Youth (7-12yrs)

The Youth Softball Camp is intended to be an opportunity for all softball players to improve their skills in a fun, safe, and inclusive environment, while being coached by SFU coaches and players. This 4(or 5)-day camp will focus on all areas of the game including hitting, throwing, fielding, and base running. We will incorporate many other activities that will make the week enjoyable for all, including games, competitions, and sliding practice! If you want to participate in a week of FUNdamentals, this is the camp for you!

Tennis (5-12yrs)

Tennis Camp aims to introduce elements of Tennis to children and youth and includes a variety of recreation-based activities and games. Campers will learn to serve and rally, practice on the court with their campmates. and explore other racket-based sports!

Track & Field (7-13yrs)

Track & Field is facilitated by SFU's Track & Field team and campers will learn about a variety of events from varsity coaches and athletes. Campers will learn about running, jumping, and throwing and will have the oportunity to experience a mini-meet on the last day of the week!

Outdoor Sports (7-11yrs)

Outdoor Sports includes a variety of traditional and non-traditional sports. This can include soccer and ultimate frisbe; as well as other games, such as Everybody's It tag (a camp favourite) or Capture the Flag. The main goal of the camp is to expose campers to a range of sports and games and to grow an appreciation for physical activity, sportsmanship, and teamwork.

Note: This camp takes place outdoors and campers should come in closed toed shoes and be dressed for the weather.

Our mission is to create a fun structured environment where players develop their skills and knowledge about the game of volleyball. The campers are grouped based on age and skill level. Camps will be run by SFU Volleyball staff.

POST CAMP CARE

Post Care

Post Camp Care is a wonderful additional service available at the Burnaby Campus for parents or guardians who require a later pick-up. Campers enjoy recreational games, sports, and crafts while making friends from a variety of other camps. Post Camp Care runs until 5:30pm.

Basketball Girls Elite Camp (15-18yrs)

This camp is ideal for competitive players who see themselves potentially playing at the university level. Our goal is to provide a window to see and feel what it is like to play at a post-secondary institution. The camp will be run by Coach Langford with the help of his staff and the team.
This camp will focus on university level skill development and will push players in the hope of giving them an understanding of what a serious commitment to basketball entails for playing at the next level.

Softball Prospects Camp (Grad yrs. 2024-2027)

Summer Prospect Camp

The Summer Softball Prospect Camp will consist of individual skill improvement, while providing an opportunity for athletes to showcase their talent in a fun and positive environment. These camps are for high school and junior college athletes who are interested in playing at the next level, giving them the chance to interact with other like-minded softball players. Campers will have the opportunity to showcase their defensive and offensive skills while picking up tips from current SFU student-athletes and staff. We will cover everything from fundamentals to competitions and game-like reps as used in daily SFU practices!

Open to all 2024-2028 high school grads and JUCO players.

Pitchers & Catchers Camp

The Pitchers & Catchers Only Camp will provide pitchers and catchers the opportunity to work closely with our current coaching staff. The group will be split by position to maximize the hour timeslot and provide ample opportunities for these athletes to showcase their skills. Discussions surrounding game strategy, pitch sequencing, and overall softball IQ will also take place. This will also serve as time for pitchers to prepare for afternoon scrimmages and/or Live At-Bats.

This is an hour you don’t want to miss! Open to all 2024-2028 high school grads and JUCO players.

Sports Performance Camp: Lightning Camp (10-17yrs)

Volleyball Advanced Skills Camp (Gr. 9-12)

This camp is for any high school athletes interested in playing post-secondary volleyball at a college or university. Sessions will be lead by Head SFU Volleyball Coach, Gina Schmidt, staff and athletes. This camp is designed to improve individual skills, which includes some position specific training, as well as the player’s overall understanding of game tactics and strategy. T-shirt included.

Volleyball Position Specific (12-17yrs)

The Position Specific Training camps are for everyone in grades 7-12. Campers will receive coaching from SFU's Volleyball Staff and Athletes, and will focus on improving the techniques specific to certain positions. Limited spots will be available on a first-come/first-serve basis.

Volleyball ID Camp (Gr. 9-12)

These camps are designed for any female high school athletes in Grade 9-12 who are interested in playing post-secondary volleyball and who want to maintain their volleyball form over the spring break. Head SFU Volleyball Coach Gina Schmidt and her staff will lead a university-level training session that includes both skill development drills and gameplay.
