We are pleased to announce that collective bargaining will commence on April 3rd between the Teaching Support Staff Union (TSSU) and SFU.  We are looking forward to engaging in meaningful discussion to address the concerns of both the Union and the University.  We intend to arrive at mutual gains within the 2019 Sustainable Services Negotiating Mandate set by the Public Sector Employers’ Council, and in line with our overarching principles, the strategic vision of the University and the SFU Academic and Research Plans for 2018-2023.

SFU is the well-regarded, respected institution it is today because of its dedicated and talented faculty and staff.  Within TSSU, many of our students are offered opportunities to develop skills in the classroom and receive valuable financial support for their studies, and we are committed to ensuring the continuity of that support for our students.  In other areas of the University, TSSU members are working in more permanent roles, and we will be exploring ways to improve continuity of employment for those employees.

We have a diverse team, drawn from all parts of the University, from both administration and faculty, and we are optimistic that, with the level of expertise on both sides of the table, we will be able to enjoy constructive negotiations that concludes with a negotiated collective agreement.
