How do I communicate to Human Resources that I want to use a temporary job standard?
Complete a Personnel Action Requisition (PAR) and indicate in the additional information section (B) on the PAR which job standard (e.g., Office Assistant, grade 5 temporary job standard; Technical Assistant, grade 4 job standard; etc.) you want to use.

Sample CUPE, Local 3338 Pre-classified Job Descriptions

What are sample pre-classified job descriptions?
Sample pre-classified job descriptions broadly describe common CUPE temporary or continuing work. Each pre-classified job description is assigned to a specific salary grade on the CUPE salary scale.

When can sample pre-classified job descriptions be used?
Sample pre-classified job descriptions can be used for CUPE temporary or continuing positions in place of completing position specific job descriptions and job questionnaires where a pre-classified job description describes the work required.

Sample pre-classified job descriptions can also be used as templates for the development of position specific job descriptions that require different responsibilities than those represented in the pre-classified job descriptions. In such cases, after the position specific job description has been developed, a job questionnaire answer sheet must be completed so the position can be evaluated and classified. The position specific job description and job questionnaire answer sheet should be submitted to your Human Resources Business Partner along with a Personnel Action Requisition (PAR).

What employment categories do the sample pre-classified job descriptions cover and where do I find them?
There are a large number of sample Pre-classified Job Descriptions (e.g., Office Assistant; General Clerk; Finance Clerk; Graduate Secretary; Undergraduate Secretary; Undergraduate & Graduate Secretary; Department Secretary; Chair or Director Secretary; and Dean’s Secretary).  Additional pre-classified job descriptions are added as they are developed.   Each pre-classified job description has been evaluated and assigned a salary grade.

How do I communicate to Human Resources that I want to use a sample pre-classified job description?
Complete a Personnel Action Requisition (PAR) and indicate in the additional information section (B) on the PAR which sample pre-classified job description (e.g., Office Assistant, grade 5 pre-classified job description; Graduate Secretary, grade 6 pre-classified job description; Undergraduate Secretary, grade 6 pre-classified job description; etc.) you want to use.  Complete your editorial edits to the pre-classified job description to include the department name, position number (if available), supervisor position title, etc. and send an e-copy of the editorially revised job description with the PAR to your Human Resources Business Partner.
