The School of Resource and Environmental Management invites applications for the following Research Assistant Position:

The School of Resource and Environmental Management (REM) requires up to six (6) graduate student Research Assistants to support and attend a camping field trip to the Junction Bighorn Sheep Range near Williams Lake.
There will be a total of seven (7) workdays:

Responsibilities:
- Assist with 3 days of planning, preparation, and wrap-up of the field trip
- Attend the 4-day tent-camping field trip
- Support 40 undergraduate students during the field trip (e.g., ratio of 6 students per RA)
- Drive a large, seven-person SUV (e.g., Ford Expedition) the return trip from Vancouver to Williams Lake
- Drive a large, seven-person SUV (e.g., Ford Expedition) off-road on two-track dirt trails
- Lead groups of 15 students on day-long hikes
Qualifications:
- At least 25 years of age
- Valid driver’s licence for the operation of the intended vehicle in British Columbia (e.g., Class 5)
- Must provide current driving abstract (i.e., available for free for a person with a B.C. licence)
- Strong inter-personal skills and ability to cultivate a supportive environment
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work in a team
- Physically capable of tent camping in a semi-remote area (i.e., truck accessible but no electricity or running water)
- Physically capable of day-long hiking (e.g., 10 km/day) in steep terrain with a 5 kg daypack
- Physically capable of tent camping and hiking in snowy, wet, and cold (e.g., -10°C) conditions
- Relevant driving, camping, and hiking experience
- An asset would be Higher-level First Aid certification (e.g., Intermediate, Transportation Endorsement)
Position Details:
- Hours: ~8 hours per day for 7 days
- Start date: ASAP
- Compensation: $25-35/hour depending on experience and degree level
To Apply:
Please send a brief statement of interest, your CV, and a description of your experience tent camping, working as part of a team in remote field sites, and relevant off-road driving experience to Dr. Scott Harrison. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis beginning March 6, until the positions are filled.
Evaluation of the adequacy of these qualifications is at the supervisor’s discretion.
