Biography
Angela Lara is a PhD Candidate at the School of Resource and Environmental Management, Simon Fraser University, and a member of the Pacific Water Research Centre, researching ecosystem services’ roles in supporting more sustainable human resettlements. She investigates the potential of ecosystem services frameworks to better inform and transform conventional approaches to development-induced resettlements, aiming to contribute to climate change adaptation strategies, to support local communities as well as the public and private sectors in conciliating economic development, enhancement of human well-being, and protection of life-support systems.
Angela has large experience in coordinating participatory multi-stakeholders projects and programs involving sustainable use of natural resources, food security, income generation, and policy design. She was awarded by the Small Grants Program/Global Environment Facility/United Nations Development Program (GEF/UNDP) to develop a pilot project for the traditional use of native plants in partnership with rural communities of Diamantina, Brazil, resulting in the designation of the traditional territory as Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, in 2021. She was responsible for the awarded candidacy of Belo Horizonte, Brazil, to the global program Cities Farming for the Future, RUAF Foundation.
