Colin Hawes (柯霖)
Biography
Colin Hawes is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with an interest in the intersection between business, law and culture: how cultures impact on the way business is done in different societies, and what happens to business laws when they are imported into a new cultural context. Colin grew up in the UK and gained a B.A. degree in Chinese Studies from the University of Durham. He then lived in China for three years (in Beijing and Wuhan), and moved to Canada to complete a Ph.D. in Asian Studies at UBC. Colin began researching Chinese and East Asian law while teaching Chinese language and culture at the University of Alberta. He subsequently completed his law degree and practised law in Vancouver focusing on Asia-related cases before joining the Law Faculty at University of Technology Sydney in 2005. He is currently on leave from UTS.
