Management of Technology MBA
Designed for tech professionals and innovators, SFU Beedie's Management of Technology (MOT) MBA program equips you to lead digital transformation and steer organizations through rapidly evolving, tech-driven markets.

Designed for working professionals, the program’s format lets you advance your career while studying, allowing you to immediately apply new concepts, tools, and frameworks in your current role. You will gain hands-on experience that prepares you to drive digital transformation and lead innovation within your organization and beyond.
Curriculum
Grounded in applied learning and a case-focused curriculum, the MOT MBA ensures you gain practical, actionable skills that directly translate to today’s tech-driven workplace. The program comprises six terms, empowering you to apply your learning as you progress. You can customize your learning through specialized coursework and standalone electives that support both career advancement and interest-driven skill development. After 24 months, you will graduate with a tailored, comprehensive skill set that positions you for your next career move. You will have the expertise to lead and drive transformation across organizations at both the local and global scale.

- Leading with Integrity
Enhance your leadership skills by understanding the dynamics and ethics of successful teams. Focus on managing oneself (self-awareness) and managing relationships (impact on others) to lead and inspire effectively. - Business Analytics
Discover advanced methods and hands-on problem-solving techniques to enhance data-driven decision-making in business. - Financial & Managerial Accounting
Gain a clear understanding of financial statements and learn how to analyze corporate financial performance. - Financial Management
Understand the basics of finance necessary for managerial decision-making. This course is divided into two blocks: short-term financing (operational finance) and long-term financing (corporate finance). - Managing People & Organizations
Understand the fundamentals of the management of people and the intricate design and function of organizations. - Managing Information
Understand information systems and information technology as strategic assets. - Marketing Management
Explore the functions and responsibilities of managers in formulating, cooperating with, and implementing corporate marketing strategies and policies. - Operations Management
Familiarize yourself with the challenges, opportunities, and essential issues in managing operations. Acquire the language, concepts, insights, and tools to address these issues and gain a competitive advantage through operations. - Indigenous Business Environments in Community
Gain insights into Indigenous knowledge and worldviews, concepts of Indigenous wealth and value, aspects of particular legal environments, and how history impacts today's partnerships. Students will apply their learning through the lens of entrepreneurship as one mechanism by which Indigenous notions of value are expressed in business environments.

- Management and Governance of AI
Explore how organizations can responsibly oversee artificial intelligence by combining foundational governance frameworks with real-world case analysis. You will examine issues such as algorithmic accountability, transparency, proportionality, and risk-based regulation across domains like generative AI, facial recognition, predictive policing, and autonomous systems. Drawing on law, ethics, policy, and sociotechnical perspectives, the course highlights how governance challenges differ across industries and contexts. Through hands-on simulations and structured case exercises, students design and refine their own AI governance models, gaining practical skills to lead and evaluate responsible AI initiatives in modern organizations. - Digital Transformation and Change Management
This course explores how emerging technologies—such as AI, automation, and intelligent decision-support systems—are reshaping the way organizations operate. You will examine real-world cases to understand how these tools redefine roles, decision-making, and the employee–customer experience. With a strong focus on ethics, fairness, and the future of work, the course prepares managers to lead technology-enabled change responsibly. Through applied projects and decision simulations, you will gain practical strategies for guiding digital transformation in ways that balance innovation with transparency, inclusivity, and organizational impact. - Innovation and Entrepreneurship
Delve into real-world case studies and hands-on projects focused on launching new ventures and developing comprehensive business plans. This course empowers students to transform entrepreneurial ideas into actionable strategies, equipping them with practical tools to bring innovative visions to life in today’s dynamic business landscape. - Strategic Management of Technology Firms
Technology-based firms operate in fast-changing markets where innovation, speed, and strategic clarity are essential. This course explores how technology-driven organizations build and execute strategies that create lasting competitive advantage. Students examine strategic decision-making at both the enterprise level and the technology strategy level, analyzing how firms position themselves in rapidly evolving markets, leverage innovation, and align technological capabilities with organizational goals. Through case studies and applied frameworks, participants learn how successful tech-based firms navigate disruption, drive growth, and sustain differentiation in dynamic industries. - Technology Studio
Learn how to take a technology from concept to market. This applied course equips students with the tools to turn technological potential into market-ready opportunities. Teams apply practical innovation and commercialization frameworks to evaluate emerging technologies, shape viable product concepts, and map strategic pathways to adoption. Through hands-on analysis, students assess value propositions, ecosystem fit, and drivers of market acceptance. The course culminates in a commercialization pitch and executive summary that demonstrate how a technology can move from lab to market, supported by evidence-based insights and strategic recommendations. - Applied Consulting Project
Engage in real-world industry projects to apply theoretical knowledge and gain practical experience. Work closely with industry partners on live projects that tackle real challenges, allowing you to integrate classroom learning with hands-on experience in diverse business environments. Through this immersive experience, you will refine your skills, expand your professional network, and develop innovative solutions that drive business success.
