Stewart Beck
Biography
Stewart Beck is one of Canada’s leading experts on Asia, with over four decades of experience in diplomacy, international trade, and public policy. He currently serves as Executive Lead of the LINC Asia Micro-credential Program at the Jack Austin Centre for Asia Pacific Business Studies, Beedie School of Business, Simon Fraser University, supporting education and outreach initiatives focused on Canada–Asia relations.
Previously, Mr. Beck served as President and CEO of the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada, where he strengthened Canada’s engagement with the Indo-Pacific by convening thought leaders and building partnerships across sectors. His distinguished diplomatic career includes serving as Canada’s High Commissioner to the Republic of India, with concurrent accreditation to the Kingdom of Bhutan and Nepal, and as Consul General in Shanghai and San Francisco.
Mr. Beck joined Canada’s Department of External Affairs and International Trade (now Global Affairs Canada) in 1982 and served abroad in the United States, Taiwan, and China. In Ottawa, he held progressively senior roles, including Director General of the North Asia Bureau and Assistant Deputy Minister for International Business Development, Investment, and Innovation. Throughout his career, he has played a key role in advancing Canada’s strategic and economic ties across the Indo-Pacific region.
