CaseIT 2025: Showcasing student talent in business and tech
SFU’s Beedie School of Business hosted the 2025 edition of CaseIT, the premier international undergraduate Management Information Systems (MIS) case competition, in Vancouver this February. The event brought together top students from around the world to demonstrate their skills in solving complex business and technology challenges.
Over six days, teams worked on two challenging business cases, sponsored by leading organizations. The first was a five-hour competition that required quick thinking and impactful decision-making, while the second was a 24-hour case that tested the teams’ ability to collaborate and provide in-depth strategic solutions.
Beyond the competition, CaseIT 2025 also facilitated networking and learning. International teams participated in ReadyForIT and ExchangeIT, icebreaker activities that helped them connect before the competition began. In addition to the cases, participants attended networking events, including a tour of Microsoft Vancouver and panels with industry professionals, providing valuable insight into the intersection of business and technology.
Local students also took part in the PIVOT competition, which offered an opportunity to hone their business and technology management skills through case-solving and workshops. PIVOT participants engaged in a workshop hosted by Affinity IT Consulting, followed by a networking session with industry experts.
Throughout the event, teams presented their solutions to a panel of judges, including representatives from sponsoring organizations, alumni, and industry leaders. This diverse panel provided valuable feedback, ensuring that the solutions met real-world industry standards and helping participants refine their skills.
“This year marked my fourth year being a part of the CaseIT Organizing Committee. I can confidently say that in these four years I had a tight-knit community that provided me with the space to grow and learn." says 2025 CaseIT Chair, Aliya Hussain. "The Chair position has provided me with the opportunity to lead, impact, and push for greatness. I hope that CaseIT has provided our competitors with a space to grow and be impacted whether that impact be small or large.”
CaseIT 2025 celebrated its top teams, with the winners being:
- 1st Place: University of Manchester
- 2nd Place: Wilfrid Laurier University
- 3rd Place: Corvinus University of Budapest
- Best Speaker: Jasmine Peart, Deakin University (Australia)
