Supporting Primary Care Transformation in Partnership with FPSC
Overview
In partnership with the Family Practice Services Committee (FPSC), Executive Education at Simon Fraser University’s Beedie School of Business delivers a customized program designed to build physician leadership capacity in service of Primary Care redesign in B.C.
Since 2010, the FPSC Leadership and Management Development Program (LMDP) has focused on developing physician leadership capacity to govern and lead in Divisions of Family Practice, address health system challenges and influence system change at local, community, provincial and national levels. There are over 450 FPSC LMDP alumni, from rural and urban settings and at all career stages, from “new to practice” through to 40 plus years of experience. The program provides an important opportunity for healthcare professionals to engage in dialogue, collaboration, and the important work of redesigning sustainable, inclusive and high-quality Primary Care.
“[The program] expertly treaded between presenting academic information and models with practical tools that we could use immediately. Thanks for not only enriching my personal and professional life, but also the lives of the people I serve, since becoming a better person makes me a better leader.”

Leadership and Management Development Program
The Leadership and Management Development Program (LMDP) is designed for physician leaders who are shaping the future of Primary Care in British Columbia.
Over 10-days, the participants build on core concepts that are central to building or enhancing leadership and management capacity. The LMDP provides a key place for participants to build relationship, skills, and the shared leadership practices needed to set the foundation for new and innovative ideas to enhance Primary Care.
The five integrated modules support the development of a strong foundation in core leadership and management concepts. Leading self and others, governance and setting direction, influencing and leading system change, facilitating engagement and collaboration, and resource allocation are core tenets of the program. By enabling sustained professional and personal growth, participants create value for their communities while allowing deeper insights into the interconnected challenges of leadership across systems.
The LMDP program fosters a culture of personal and professional growth, building a community of physician leaders committed to ongoing learning, knowledge sharing and mutual problem-solving, creating lasting networks in their communities, organizations and beyond.
“One of the most important highlights of this program is not only the teaching, but the teaching about humanity and humility. This is the area of my character where I experienced the greatest amount of growth. For that I am truly grateful.”
