Research description/interests:

Narratives of space and place; museological storytelling; the role of museums in making or co-creating culture; place-based storytelling in museums; spatial interface technologies in museum exhibits; user/visitor experience; transposing spatial narratives into museum environments; land- and place-based relationships; liminal and third spaces; cultural and built landscapes.  

Biography:

Barbara has lived, worked, and studied in five countries on four continents. Before moving to Vancouver to become the director of the Museum of Archaeology & Ethnology, she headed the collections and curatorial team at Puke Ariki in New Plymouth in Aotearoa/New Zealand, and led the Kauri Museum in northern New Zealand. Barbara trained at the Smithsonian Institution (Washington DC) and the V&A Museum (London), among many other wonderful museums, always looking to connect visitors with distant places, times, cultures, and ideas.
