Funding & Finances

Geography Graduate Student Funding Policy

As of Fall 2024, PhD students can expect to receive a minimum funding of $28,000 per year for four years and Master's students a minimum of $23,000 per year for two years. Funding is normally provided through a combination of Scholarships, Teaching and/or Research funding.  As funding amounts and sources vary, you will need to contact your proposed supervisor(s) directly to determine the level of support available to you.

Please review the Graduate Program in Geography PhD and thesis-based Master’s Minimum Funding Policy for further details.

Finances

Additional financial resources and comprehensive graduate tuition and fee information can be found on the SFU Dean of Graduate Studies website.

Scholarships

A range of internal scholarships and awards are available to new and continuing graduate students. Further details are available on the Graduate Studies awards page.

Bursaries

Graduate specific bursaries are a supplemental source of funding for students with demonstrated financial need; that is, they should not be treated as your primary source of funding. Bursaries are available to Canadian and International students. Details on eligibility and how to apply are administered through Student Services.
