Temporary Support Services

Human Resources offers an in-house temporary placement service for all 3 SFU campuses. This service allows employees to work in a range of departments with one of BC’s Top Employers. Assignments provide the opportunity to learn and execute new skills, build connections with a variety of SFU staff, faculty, and students, and gain a deeper understanding of SFU’s culture.

These assignments are filled by employees in our Regular Temporary Pool or our Student Temporary Pool:

  • The Student Temporary Pool provides part-time employment opportunities for active SFU students who are registered in credit courses in the semester of employment.

Note: All assignments through the Temporary Pool will have a duration of less than 3 months. Any temporary position of 3 months or greater will be posted for a minimum of 5 days on our Career Centre

Testimonials

“Being in the Temp Pool allows me to ‘answer the call’ and go where help is needed. I’ve conducted a key audit at Facilities Vancouver, helped compete for prestigious prizes and awards for our research faculty, worked on computing IDs at IT Services, took a ride on the red bus while being a computer tech at Earth Sciences, did some heavy lifting as a Service Clerk at SFU Surrey, and answered a lot of random questions at Reg/Info Services Vancouver. As well, my colleagues were wonderfully supportive, offering opportunities to learn and grow. It’s my hope to forge a trail through SFU while meeting new people, creating memories, and leaving little legacies behind.”

"After finishing my degree, it was my goal to find continuing employment in the post-secondary education sector. The SFU temporary pool gave me the foot-in-the door I needed to gain entry-level experience in university administration, and provided me with enough flexibility and stability to make an informed decision about applying for a continuing position. In my now permanent role as a Program Assistant for Career and Professional Programs, I have become familiar with a wide range of administrative processes. Above all, my verbal and written communication skills are daily put to the test, challenged, and improved, as I liaise with multiple internal departments, administrative staff, instructors, and students. What I love about Continuing Studies is the opportunity our programs give to students to similarly expand their professional horizons."

"Simon Fraser University has an amazing staff that are professional, caring, modern and value integrity. They make the culture of working at SFU one that inspires pride. I would strongly encourage anyone thinking of wanting to work at SFU, as it would be a career move that would enhance your professional and personal life. Work environments are productive, friendly and modern. Knowing that my daily efforts are assisting students, professors and staff to progress along their academic, professional and personal lives is highly rewarding to me. The energy at SFU campuses as well is highly motivating due to the aspiring spirit from its community."
