Internal Transfer
Requirements
This application is for you if you are:
- A current SFU student in a faculty other than the Beedie School of Business, AND
- Seeking admission to the Business Major, Joint Major, Second Degree, or the Mechatronic Systems Engineering and Business Double Degree programs
Admission evaluation
To gain admission to the Beedie School of Business, you must satisfy the following requirements by the application deadline:
- Minimum of 24 completed units, of which 12 must be completed at SFU
- A minimum 2.67 SFU CGPA
- Completion of the Supplemental Application
Applicants will be competitively selected for admission based on a combination of their SFU CGPA and Supplemental Application.

Admission pathways
We have two pathways depending on the number of units you have completed:
Entry with 24 to 47 Units Completed
Applicants with 24-47 units must have the following 4 course requirements complete with a minimum C- grade at the time they apply:
Required courses
- ECON 103 Principles of Microeconomics (or ECON 113)
- ECON 105 Principles of Macroeconomics (or ECON 115)
- MATH 157 Calculus for the Social Sciences I (or MATH 151, 154, or 150)
- One of: Any 3- unit transferable ENGL course or PHIL 100W, 105, 110, 120W, 150 or WL 101W, 103W, 104W, 105W
If you repeat a required course for admission, the highest course attempt is included in your SFU CGPA. Students must have final, standard letter grades in the required courses at the time of admission evaluation.
Students who have used more than 3 SFU course repeats reduce their chances of being admitted as the Beedie School of Business enforces SFU's Five Course Repeat Policy. Should you require 5 or more repeats to complete a degree in the Beedie School of Business, you will not be eligible for Internal Transfer admission.
Entry with 48 or more Units Completed
Applicants with 48 or more completed units must have the following 8 course requirements complete with a minimum C- grade at the time they apply:

- BUS 232 Business Statistics or ECON 233 Introduction to Economics Data and Statistics or STAT 270 Introduction to Probability and Statistics
- BUS 237 Introduction to Business Technology Management
- BUS 251 Financial Accounting I
- BUS 272 Behavior in Organizations
- ECON 103 Principles of Microeconomics (or ECON 113)
- ECON 105 Principles of Macroeconomics (or ECON 115)
- MATH 157 Calculus I for the Social Sciences (or MATH 151, 154, or 150)

Applying for a Joint Major?
Information for Joint Major Applicants
Joint Major applicants must already be accepted to the non-Business portion of their intended Joint Major, or be eligible for admission to the respective Faculty/Department at the time of application submission.
Students are encouraged to consult with the department advisor(s) for the non-Business portion of the Joint Major to plan for entry into this portion of the Joint Major either before, or at the same time as admission to the Beedie School of Business.

Required Courses for Admission
If one of the required courses for admission to the Business Major program is not listed as a required course for graduation with the Joint Major in the SFU Academic Calendar, you are not required to present completion of this course for admission. For example, students applying for the Joint Major with Computing Science are not required to have completed BUS 237 for admission, as BUS 237 is not a required course for graduation.
Frequently asked questions
Why did the admission requirements change?
The Beedie School of Business recognizes that academics alone do not tell your whole story. Starting with the Fall 2024 intake, transfer applicants will demonstrate preparedness for our program through their efforts inside and outside of the classroom.
As an applicant, you will be evaluated on your SFU CGPA and a Supplemental Application. The Supplemental Application is a space to showcase your personal experiences, achievements and communication skills. You have worked hard, and we want to better understand the person behind your grades!
Will it be more difficult to gain admission?
Admission success will continue to be based on the size and competitiveness of the applicant pool, and the number of spaces we have available in our program.
Why is the admission evaluation based on my SFU CGPA?
A CGPA allows our admissions team to assess your performance in all academic subjects.
Why do I need the 4 required courses if I have between 24-47 units?
The 4 required courses assess fundamental qualitative and quantitative skills, are commonly used for business school admission, and are built into the first year of our BBA program.
Why do I need the 8 required courses if I have 48 or more units?
The 8 required courses assess fundamental qualitative and quantitative skills, and map to the required lower division requirements of our BBA program.
What courses should I take prior to admission?
Students wishing to stay on-track with our first and second year BBA program degree requirements are encouraged to review our Degree Checklists by year and connect with a Beedie Academic Advisor for guidance on term and degree course planning.
What terms can I apply to?
The Beedie School of Business accepts applications for our Fall (September), Spring (January), and Summer (May) terms for students applying through the Internal Transfer Pathway.
Can I apply for a Business Concentration at the time of application?
No. Applicants are able to declare a Business Concentration(s) once they have been admitted to the program. More information on our nine concentrations, including Accounting, Marketing, Finance, Strategic Analysis and more, can be found here.
How are applications assessed?
Applications are evaluated by the Beedie Undergraduate Admissions team to verify that you have met the minimum grade and course requirements above.
Your Supplemental Application will be evaluated by SFU Beedie’s Supplemental Evaluation Committee. Applicants will be competitively selected for admission based on a combination of their SFU CGPA and Supplemental Application.
What is the competitive CGPA?
Applicants must present a minimum 2.67 SFU CGPA at the time of evaluation to be eligible for admission consideration.
I have a “P” (Pass) grade from the Fall 2023 term. How will this impact my application?
A P grade from the Fall 2023 term can be used to satisfy the required courses for admission to SFU Beedie. Further, P grades from Fall 2023 will not be included in the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) calculation. When will I have access to the Supplemental Application?
You will have access to the Supplemental Application during the application period for your intended term of admission.
Am I allowed to use ChatGPT or any other large language models for assistance with completing my supplemental application?
At the SFU Beedie School of Business, we believe marks matter, but so do your experiences, achievements, and communication skills. That’s why we’re asking you to submit your original work, without the assistance of ChatGPT, etc. Large language models such as ChatGPT and others reduce your voice and creativeness in your responses. We’re not looking for a perfect response. We’re looking to learn more about you, your experiences, and why you want to study at the SFU Beedie School of Business.
When will I get an update on my application?
Applications are evaluated once the Internal Transfer Application deadline has passed. Updates on your application status will be sent to your @SFU email prior to the first day of enrollment for the subsequent term. Please be sure to monitor your @SFU email frequently for updates following the deadline to apply.
Why was my application denied?
Admission to the Beedie School of Business is based on multiple factors, including the number of spaces we have available in our program and the size and competitiveness of the applicant pool. Please refer to communications from the Beedie School of Business for more information on why your application was denied. If you require further clarification as to why your application has been cancelled, please contact our office at bsb_admit@sfu.ca.
I want to appeal my admission decision. Where can I find more information on the appeal process?
You may submit an appeal to the Beedie School of Business Appeals Committee provided you meet eligible grounds for an appeal. Please review appeal eligibility and instructions.
