Simon Fraser University was very pleased to recently host a visit from Dr. Ken Urquhart, an alumnus of the Department of Physics in October 2019.

During his visit, Ken gave both a Physics colloquium and a special presentation to students, in which he described the excellent opportunities available to physics graduates.  In his own career, Ken has driven key technological innovations in companies such as Sun Microsystems, IBM and Microsoft, culminating in his current position at Luxoft, where he consults with global corporations on emerging technologies including 5G, artificial intelligence, machine learning and blockchain.  During his presentations, Ken emphasized to students that their physics training and experience in critical thinking prepares them particularly well for a career in Data Science, and he offered to act as a bridge for any students wishing to take their first steps into that industry.
