Trades safety

Confined spaces

SFU requires the following for confined space safety:

  • Risk assessment
  • Site documentation
  • Worker training
  • Site orientation

WorkSafeBC requirements for confined space are stringent. Both SFU and WorkSafeBC require that a risk/hazard assessment of the space be conducted prior to any entry of a confined space. The risk/hazard assessment must be completed by a qualified person as defined by WorkSafeBC. SFU requires that any SFU person requiring to enter a confined space, must be properly trained for confined space entry and for the tasks. Any person require to enter SFU confined spaces must contact SFU EHS: 778.782.3867 prior to conducting any entries. Contact must be made within 1 week prior to work in the confined space.
