Matthew Gallant
STEMCELL Technologies (Summer 2025)
My role at STEMCELL primary consisted of conducting experiments to qualify different conditions used in STEMCELL’s EasySep Cell separation kits. My role had a good mix of wet-lab work, including hands-on work under a BSC and using flow cytometry, as well as analyzing, graphing and interpreting results using a variety of computer software. I enjoyed my time working with STEMCELL and made lots of valuable connections. One tip I would recommend when applying to Co-op is to present yourself on a more personal level by adding extracurriculars to your resume and cover letter. They are great talking points to nail an interview and make you stand out from other applicants when applying.
Cinthia Tang Ruan
Bureau Veritas Laboratories (Summer 2025)
I was responsible for preparing water and miscellaneous samples, from receiving through to archiving, for trace metal analysis. This includes pre-screening to determine appropriate dilution factors. Additionally, I conducted routine instrument verifications and prepared reagents and standards. Applying for a job can be daunting, but keep on trying! There’s something for everyone out there. Don’t think you’re not qualified enough for a job, remember that every experience has transferable skills! Also, ask your co-op advisors to proofread your cover letters before you submit anything. They’re very knowledgeable and can help polish your application!
Christian Mah
Merieux NutriSciences Corporation (Summer 2025)
As a forensic equine drug testing (FEDT) co-op student, my role was to prepare, extract and analyze equine samples for potential drugs. Additionally, I had the privilege of performing specialized tests on other specimens.
