Community Leadership Award

The application period will open on January 12, 2026. | Deadline: February 15, 2026.

For a fifth year, the Community Leadership Award will be offered through the joint support of the Fondation des francophones de la Colombie-Britannique endowment fund and the Office of Francophone and Francophile Affairs (OFFA) at Simon Fraser University (SFU).

It recognizes active involvement and dedication to promoting the French language in British Columbia.

Since 2025, the Community Leadership Award has been divided into two categories:

  • Community Leadership Award – Regular
  • Community Leadership Award – In Education

These two awards will be presented during the Printemps de la francophonie, organized by BAFF, which will take place in March 2026.

Eligibility criteria

  • Be enrolled in a full-time French program at SFU at the time of application.
  • Have demonstrated outstanding community involvement contributing to the promotion of the French language and/or the francophone community in British Columbia.
  • Be in good academic standing









     

FUTURE TEACHERS

  • Be enrolled in a full-time French program in Education at SFU at the time of application.

or

RECENT GRADUATES

  • have graduated from a full-time French-language education program at SFU within the last two years (between January 2024 and December 2025).
  • demonstrated outstanding community and/or school district involvement contributing to the promotion of the French language and/or the francophone community in British Columbia.
  • Be in good academic standing

Documents required

  • The completed Survey Monkey application form, available here.
  • A curriculum vitae (CV) demonstrating volunteer involvement in your community and/or university (to be attached to your form where indicated).
  • A letter of recommendation from a community organization or community leader demonstrating the candidate's impact in the community (to be attached to your form where indicated).
  • A video of no more than 2 minutes describing what makes the candidate a Francophone leader and explaining the impact of his or her commitment on the community.

Candidate selection

Candidates will be evaluated by a committee made up of university, community and school district members, based on their involvement and leadership within French-speaking communities, school districts, associations, organizations and/or Simon Fraser University.

The jury will review applications based on the following criteria: quality of the application, engagement length and frequency, engagement impact as well as quality and relevancy of the reference provided.

This award is an initiative jointly funded by the Fondation des francophones de la Colombie-Britannique and the Office of Francophone and Francophile Affairs at Simon Fraser University.

The mission at OFFA is to coordinate, promote and support to the development of programs and courses offered in French at Simon Fraser University (SFU). We also organize cultural and scientific activities within the community to foster a plural and inclusive Francophonie.

The Fondation des francophones de la Colombie-Britannique was created in 1998 by a group of francophones with a vision for the future who wanted to provide the entire francophone and francophile community with financial autonomy and support for its long-term development. A charitable organization, one of its main mandates is to promote the French language in our province through higher education. Candidates will be evaluated by a committee of academic, community and school district representatives, based on their commitment and leadership within communities, school district, associations, French-speaking organizations and/or Simon Fraser University.
