Appointment Duration and Timeline

Appointment Dates: January 3, 2024 - April 30, 2024

  • Sessional Instructors must be available from start of term and until final grades have been submitted or last day of term.
  • Sessional Instructors may be required to work on weekends during final exam grading, to meet the 96-hour (4 day) deadline.

Sessional Instructor Training

New or returning Sessional Instructors are welcome to attend the Teaching Strategies workshops held by the SFU’s Centre for Educational Excellence.

Hiring Priorities

All Sessional Instructor positions involve membership in the Teaching Support Staff Union (TSSU); and are subject to both sufficient enrollment in the course and budgetary approval. The School of Environmental Science follows Article XIV (E.2) of the TSSU-SFU Collective Agreement when hiring Sessional Instructors.

  • Confirmation of a PhD or PhD in-progress. e.g. Transcript.
  • Contact information for three references
  • Curriculum Vitae listing:
    • Relevant publications and demonstrated research expertise
    • Prior teaching positions at the post-secondary level in ecological systems, ecological restoration, sustainability, natural resources management, and/or Indigenous studies (including, but not limited to, economics, governance, stewardship)
    • Experience collaborating, mentoring and advising within diverse communities
