Appointment Duration and Timeline

Appointment Dates: Sept 2, 2024 - Dec 27, 2024 (subject to change)

  • Sessional Instructors must be available from start of term and until final grades have been submitted or last day of term.
  • Sessional Instructors may be required to work on weekends during final exam grading, to meet the 96-hour (4 day) deadline.

Sessional Instructor Training

New or returning Sessional Instructors are welcome to attend the Teaching Strategies workshops held by the SFU’s Centre for Educational Excellence.   


$7,718 for the course (3 contact hours per the Sessional Instructor Wage Schedule as of May 1, 2024). As per Appendix N of the TSSU-SFU Collective Agreement, an additional half contact hour (0.5) is given for the first time that the Sessional Instructor teaches a W course in addition to the 3 contact hours. Hiring Priorities

All Sessional Instructor positions involve membership in the Teaching Support Staff Union (TSSU); and are subject to both sufficient enrollment in the course and budgetary approval. The School of Environmental Science follows Article XIV (E.2) of the TSSU-SFU Collective Agreement when hiring Sessional Instructors.
