Congratulations to our Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences graduate convocation medal award winners! The Medals recognize graduating students whose cumulative grade-point averages place them in the top five per cent of their class.

 

Dr. Joanna Amirault: PhD, Criminology
Thesis: Criminalizing Terrorism: The Impact of Context and Cohort Effects on the Sentencing Outcomes of Terrorist Offenders
Joanna Amirault’s research involves terrorism and sentencing; the data set she created is now used by the Canadian government for training purposes.

Thesis: Democracy, Governance, and Metro Vancouver: Decision-Making and the Regional Growth Strategy
Mark Friesen’s thesis examined cooperation between Metro Vancouver regional governments and non-profits. He now works at a consultancy firm for non-profits.
