Haida experience moves Indian language scholar
April 15, 2016
A trip to Haida Gwaii has given an SFU visiting linguist a new perspective on language preservation, something she has devoted a lifetime to researching in her native India.
Professor Anvita Abbi is teaching a field linguistics course at SFU and visited Haida Gwaii with elder Lawrence Bell, the last fluent speaker of the Massett dialect of Haida. Bell has been helping Abbi as she teaches the course, which explores the Haida language.
