Undergraduate Convocation Award Winners, 2016

Robert C. Brown Award:
Christine Banta and Laura Scheck

The Robert C. Brown Award recognizes Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences students for outstanding academic achievement combined with outstanding leadership.

Christine Banta completed a BA in Criminology plus a Legal Studies Certificate. In addition to her outstanding academic achievements, Christine volunteers with Whole Way House, the Pacific Academy Outreach Society, and Alexandra Neighourood House.

Laura Scheck completed a BA in Gender, Sexuality amd Women's Studies. In addition to her outstanding academic achievements, Laura is a co-founder of the SFU Sexual Assault Prevention and Support Centre Committee and co-chairs the GSWS Student Union.

Lieutenant Governor's Silver Medal:
Margaret Torgerson, Gerontology

Awarded to an undergraduate who has maintained the highest academic standing in a certificate or post-baccalaureate diploma program and who, by participating in extracurricular activities, has shown outstanding qualities of character and unselfish devotion to the community.

Dean's Undergraduate Convocation Medals:
Tony Nguyen and Claire Sieffert

The two winners of the 2016 Dean’s Undergraduate Convocation Medals are:

  • Tony Nguyen (Department of Sociology and Anthropology)
  • Claire Sieffert (Department of History)

Convocation Medals recognize academic achievement and are given to two graduating students at spring convocation.

Both Nguyen and Sieffert are noted for their excellent grades and outstanding extra-curricular service activities within SFU and beyond.
