Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC)

  • Destination Horizon Grant
    Description: Supports Canadian researchers building partnerships with European Union and associated countries' researchers through capacity-building activities, scholarly exchanges, and network development to prepare for Horizon Europe—Pillar II funding calls.
    Deadline (rolling): Next is May 22, 2025
    Value: Up to $15,000
  • Connection Grant
    Description: Supports events and outreach activities for short-term, targeted knowledge mobilization, often serving as a first step toward more comprehensive and longer-term projects.
    Deadline: February 1, 2025
    Value: Events: $7,000 - $25,000 Outreach activities: $7,000 - $50,000
  • Insight Development Grant
    Description: Supports research in its initial stages to enable the development of new research questions as well as experimentation with new methods, theoretical approaches, and/or ideas.
    Deadline: February 2, 2025
    Value: $7,000 - $75,000
  • Research on Research Joint Initiative
    Description: Supports metaresearch projects examining research practices, methods, evaluation, and funding. Areas may include talent development, funding allocation, research integrity, infrastructure, research dissemination, and impact assessment. Joint initiative between SSHRC, CIHR, and Michael Smith Health Research BC.
    Deadline: February 20, 2025
    Value: Up to $200,000
  • Partnership Engage Grant
    Description: Supports partnered research activities that inform an immediate or time-constrained need of a single, non-academic partner organization. Designed to enable partner organizations and postsecondary researchers to access each other's unique knowledge, expertise, and capabilities on topics of mutual interest.
    Deadline: March 15, 2025
    Value: $7,000 - $25,000
  • SFU/SSHRC Small Explore Grant
    Description: Supports scholarly research in the contemporary arts, humanities, and social sciences for expenses up to a maximum of $7,000, or in teams, up to $10,000.
    Deadline: June 1, 2025
    Value: Up to $7,000

Arts Councils

Canada Council for the Arts 2025 Program Updates
 
The Canada Council for the Arts has announced key changes to their funding structure for 2025. Please note, more details will follow, and for now, the Council will continue to accept applications in the current portal, as usual. Changes coming in 2025 include: 
 
  • A new Micro-grants Program will support professional development, career advancement, and artistic practice activities, replacing several existing programs including Professional Development for Artists and Arts Across Canada: Travel.
  • A new Composite Activities Program will provide multi-year funding for complex projects spanning up to three years, supporting activities from research to presentation. This program will consolidate several existing funding streams including Explore and Create: Concept to Realization.
