"You Matter" Book

"You Matter" is a self-care book for survivors and supporters created by the SVSPO and illustrated by Michelle Campos Castillo.

We all respond to trauma differently, and we all need to take time to recover and be patient with ourselves. We hope this guide is grounding, provides you with outlets to process, and gives you moments to rest and breathe.

This book has been created for clients of the SVSPO as well as the broader SFU and FIC community. It is divided into ten unique self-care sections including activities and exercises, alongside illustrated quotes to guide the reader into different aspects of self-care. The book was created primarily for a student audience; however, the main intent is to provide self-care reminders and activities for any reader.

Self-care isn’t as pretty as this book. It is a radical act, and one that does not always focus on buying things or getting fancy spa treatments, as it has been popularized to be. Self-care is about taking care of our mental, emotional, physical and spiritual well-being. It is about knowing or otherwise learning more about what we need to do in order to take care of ourselves.
