Air quality

Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) describes the content and thermal properties of interior air that could affect health and comfort of building occupants.

Wildfires

British Columbia often experiences extraordinary wildfire events with smoke impacting the Lower Mainland. During these times EHS monitors and follows the air quality advisories provided by the Government of British Columbia and Metro Vancouver.

There is an Air Quality Advisory for Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley because of high concentrations of fine particulate matter, primarily due to smoke from wildfires burning near Harrison Lake in BC. Those with chronic underlying medical conditions should postpone strenuous exercise and follow the advice of their healthcare providers.

While on campus, follow these tips:

  • Keep windows closed and minimize your time spent outdoors.
  • Continue to manage medical conditions such as asthma, chronic respiratory disease, and heart failure. If symptoms are bothersome, seek medical attention.
