Payment Methods

Effective January 1, 2017: cash will no longer be accepted at the Residence and Housing Office or at the Registrar and Information Services counters (Burnaby, Vancouver and Surrey).

 

How to make your $700 confirmation payment:

Once you are offered housing, you will be asked to make a confirmation payment to accept and confirm your offer.  

NOTE:  You will need to make a confirmation payment prior to each term that you will be living in residence.  See Residence fee due dates

Option 1: Online credit card payment through the Housing Portal

(Easiest and quickest option)

  1. Log into the SFU Housing Portal using your 6 digit Housing ID and pin. (where you applied for housing)
  2. Choose application from the options at the top
  3. Choose the term for which you are confirming
  4. Choose "Residence Contract Agreement" from the grey menu.  (If you are under the age of 19 you will be asked to go through the process of designating a parent, guardian, or custodian to review your contract before you can move to the next step.)
  5. Read the Contract terms and Handbook in order to understand the conditions of your offer. This is a legal agreement.
  6. If you agree and are ready to accept, check the "I agree" boxes. The first box agrees to the contract, the second box agrees to the terms of our privacy and information disclosure policies.
  7. Click the "CONFIRM" button.
  8. Make the $700 initial, non-refundable confirmation payment with a credit card. (Your Contract details the conditions and dates for any possible refunds)
  9. Click "Save & Continue".

Option 2: Debit card

Payment can be made in person at the Residence and Housing office with a debit card.

Option 3: Payments from outside of Canada through Flywire

IMPORTANT: This option requires an additional step to confirm your housing offer.  Once you make this payment, you will then need to upload your proof of payment through the Housing Portal.

Payments from outside of Canada must be received through Flywire (previously peerTransfer). Flywire allows you to pay the Canadian dollar amount at a local bank in the currency of your choice with a competitive exchange rate. Flywire will convert the payment at the rate you have locked in (the rate is guaranteed for 48 hours).

The funds will then be delivered directly to SFU with your student identification information within three business days.

Option 4: Through SFU Student Accounts: Internet banking or credit card through your SFU Account

IMPORTANT: This option requires an additional step to confirm your housing offer.  Once you make this payment, you will then need to upload your proof of payment through the Housing Portal.

  • After you've made your payment via Internet banking or credit card to your GoSFU student account, you MUST save your payment confirmation as a pdf file, word document OR save a screen shot of your confirmed payment as a .jpeg or .png.
  • Log in to the Housing Portal with the steps listed in Option 1 above and at the payment stage, select ‘upload proof of payment’. This is the only way to let us know that payment is made so that we can confirm your housing offer.

NOTE: Fraser International College students using this option will FIRST need to activate their SFU account. 

  • Follow these instructions on how to activate your SFU student account
  • Once logged in, you will be asked to agree to the terms of use by clicking "I Accept."
  • Then you must enter your SFU Computing ID (i.e. your SFU student number) to identify yourself.
  • You will then be asked to complete a series of questions to activate your account.

Option 5: Money order, bank draft, or personal cheque

Make money order, bank draft, or cheque payable to “Simon Fraser University” and include your student number on the front.   

Cash is not accepted at the Residence and Housing Office or at the Registrar and information Services counters.  Residents may take their cash to a bank for a bank draft.

How to Pay Your Residence fees:

Fraser International College students using  Options 1,2,and 3 will need to activate their SFU account:

  • Follow these instructions on how to activate your SFU student account
  • Once logged in, you will be asked to agree to the terms of use by clicking "I Accept."
  • Then you must enter your SFU Computing ID (i.e. your SFU student number) to identify yourself.
  • You will then be asked to complete a series of questions to activate your account.

Option 1: Online - Internet banking (Canadian banks only)

Allow two to three business days for the payment to be posted to your student account.

You will need to set up Simon Fraser University as a Bill Payee on your account

Option 2: Online - Credit card payment through your GoSFU account

For a simple-to-follow tutorial, login to your SFU student account and under 'Self Service Video Tutorials,' click on Student Video Tutorials, scroll down to Financials and click on Make a Payment – Paying certain fees by credit card.

Option 3: Payments from outside of Canada – Flywire payment
