East and West Towers

General Construction

Purpose: Technicians will be installing Cisco WAP Trims in resident rooms, working in both towers adjusting door hardware in a number of rooms and crews will be finishing off the application of polyurethane coatings to the "eyebrow" at the edge of the roof.

When:  Monday June 7 - Friday June 18

Impact on Residents:

  • Expect some noise. 
  • You may notice the smell of paint. 
  • Normal hours of work will be 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday (except holidays).  Work will occasionally occur on Saturdays between: 10:00 am – 4:00 pm.

Safety and Security:

  • To ensure their safety, residents should watch for caution tape, construction fencing, signage and hazard-marking cones that will be in place to keep people away from areas where work is in progress. 
  • It is suggested that you keep your blinds closed for privacy. 
  • Residents may occasionally notice workers in the buildings and on the upper floor lobby or upper stair wells.
  • In order to prevent dust and fumes from entering your room, we recommend that you keep your window closed and latched whenever you are not in your room and whenever work is in progress nearby.  Please note that if the workers find a window open in the area where they are working, they may push it closed while work is in progress, but this is not as effective as latching the window from inside. 

Roof and South Side of Building Construction

Purpose: Work will be performed on the roof and south side of the building. Two glazing crews will be on a swing stages finishing the sun shades and student room window's on south side of both buildings. Additionally, crews will be on the roof of both buildings applying polyurethane coatings to the "eyebrow" at the edge of the roof.

  • Expect some noise.

  • To ensure their safety, residents should watch for caution tape, construction fencing, signage and hazard-marking cones that will be in place to keep people away from areas where work is in progress.

Window Cleaning

Areas Affected: Work will take place on the south and west sides of the towers.

Timeline: Monday, June 28 - Friday July 2

Timeline: Friday, July 2 to  Friday July 9

Purpose: Sheet metal installation 

Impact on Residents

  • Expect some noise.
  • Normal hours of work will be 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday (except holidays).  
  • Work will occasionally occur on Saturdays between: 10:00 am – 4:00 pm.

Door Painting

Areas Affected: Work will be performed in and around the East and West buildings.

Timeline: Thursday, July 14 to  Friday July 23

Purpose: All the doors in the East and West Towers are being repainted and touched up.

Impact on Residents

  • Expect some smell and noise. 
  • Normal hours of work will be 9:00 am to 5:00 pm

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE EAST AND WEST TOWERS  

Areas Affected: Work will be performed in and around the East and West buildings.

Timeline: Monday, August 30 to Friday September 3

Purpose:

  • This work includes:
    • Homan Roofing will be on site Wednesday September 01 2021 to open the roof on each building ahead of scanning and coring. This work will take place from 9:00am to 5:00pm.
    • ABM Cutting & Coring was delayed in in doing work last week and will now be onsite Wednesday September 01 to do coring in all the communications rooms.
    • Multi-faith Room & Music Room Drywall and preparations for glass installation will continue this week.
    • Glass Stair Railings Metal caps are to be installed on the top of all glass balustrades.

Impact on Residents: 

  • Expect some noise. 
  • Normal hours of work will be 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday (except holidays).  Work will occasionally occur on Saturdays between: 10:00 am – 4:00 pm.

PUBLIC REALM PROJECT

Areas Affected: Work will be performed in and around the East and West buildings.

Timeline: Monday, August 16  to Friday August 20 

Purpose:

  • UCC will be switching the access route to Hamilton Hall to the Fire Lane traveling East. 
  • UCC will be installing paver on the West side of the Hamilton Hall 
  • Pavement at Hamilton Hall Entranceway will be removed Tuesday or Wednesday. Safe access and egress to Hamilton Hall will remain in place with minimal interruption.
  • UCC will be installing a trench drain in front of the main entrance a removable ramp will provide ongoing access and egress for residents.
  • Access to the breeze way will be interrupted nest week as Scott Construction completes the installation of power and water service to the new courtyards. 

Impact on Residents: 

  • Expect some noise. 
  • Please note some access routes are being changed. 
  • Normal hours of work will be 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday (except holidays).  Work will occasionally occur on Saturdays between: 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

North Towers PJH, BRH, SBH

LED Lighting Upgrades Project

Purpose: To provide superior lighting and reduce energy consumption.

Timeline: Fall 2020/ Spring 2021
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm (except holidays).
Occasional Saturdays 9:00am to 5:00pm.
Areas Effected: Bedrooms and Exterior Lighting
Impact on Residents: Residents may be exposed to relatively minor noise.

Installation of new light fixtures was completed in all vacant rooms that were scheduled to be occupied for the fall term.  Due to COVID-19 restrictions, work has been postponed in rooms that were occupied by the same resident through the summer and fall terms.

Installation of new light fixtures in the breezeway, the exterior fire escapes and a number of other exterior locations will proceed during the 2020/21 academic year.

Temporary Water Service to PJH and HAM

Areas Affected: A temporary water supply using fire hoses to serve Hamilton Hall (HAM) and Pauline Jewett House (PJH) 

Timeline: Thursday morning, October 22, 2020.  This temporary service will be activated early on Monday, October 26 and will remain in place for approximately two to three days.

Purpose: The temporary water supply is required while crews make repairs and modifications to the main underground water supply piping. 

Impact on Residents: Residents of PJH and/or HAM may occasionally notice a lower volume of water coming from the faucets or showers. This is due to the fact that the fire hoses have a smaller diameter that the regular water supply piping.

Water quality will not be effected, except for a possible increase in turbidity (suspended solids) when the regular water supply is restored (predicted to occur on Wednesday, October 28 or Thursday, October 29).  If you notice that the water is discoloured at any time, please run the water until it clears up.

Fire hoses will be running along the ground in various locations as part of this project - they will cross the breezeway near the entrance to BRH and PJH and a hose will cross in front of the main entrance of HAM.

 

Temporary Water Supply to Barbara Rae House (BRH)

A temporary water supply is currently in place to serve BRH.  Regular water service is expected to be restored around the middle of September.

Purpose: This temporary water supply is required while crews make repairs and modifications to the main underground water supply piping. During this time please be mindful of the following:

Impact on Residents:

  • BRH residents may occasionally notice a lower volume of water coming from the faucets or showers. This is due to the fact that the fire hoses have a smaller diameter than the regular water supply piping.
  • If you notice that the quality of the water changes at any time, please run the water until it clears up.
  • Fire hoses are running along the ground in various locations as part of this project and they will cross the breezeway near the entrance to each of the towers (SBH, BRH, and PJH) and a hose will cross in front of the main entrance of HAM.

Reconstruction of the Residence Fire Lane 

Timeline: Summer 2020 - Fall 2020

Areas Effected: The concrete surface of the existing Fire Lane south of the Towers.

Impact on Residents: The Fire Lane will remain closed 24/7 to pedestrian and non-emergency vehicle traffic until the reconstruction work has been completed (Fall, 2020). You may hear an increased level of noise during this time due to the cutting and breaking of concrete. Pedestrians should use the Breezeway route exclusively, from the front entrance of Pauline Jewett House to the Residence and Housing Office.

Renovated Washrooms Update - Quality Assurance Work

As part of the quality assurance process, contractors will be conducting final inspections in the renovated washrooms.

When: Thursday, July 16

Hours of work: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Areas Effected: Shadbolt House and Barbara Rae House

Impact on Residents: Washrooms will be closed for a short period of time. At least one washroom on each floor will remain open at any given time.

Repair work in BRH-417 Washroom

Contractor will be repairing and repainting the washroom ceilings in BRH-417. 

Schedule: 

  • Monday, July 27: closed 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon
  • Tuesday, July 28: closed 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon
  • Wednesday, July 29: closed 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Areas Effected: BRH 4th Floor

Impact on Residents: The washroom will be closed intermittently while the repairs are in progress. Residents of the east wing are asked to use the washroom in the west wing whenever the washroom in the east wing is closed.

Exterior Water-Shedding Improvements

The purpose of this project is to restore and re-seal the exterior walls of all three towers (Shadbolt House, Barbara Rae House and Pauline Jewett House)

Timeline: Spring 2019 – Spring 2020.
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm (except holidays).
Occasional Saturdays 9:00am to 5:00pm.
In rare cases work will continue past 5:00pm but not later than 6:00pm.
Areas Effected: All exterior walls of the towers.
Impact on Residents: Residents in the areas where work is in progress may occasionally notice workers right outside the window of their room. Residents should expect noise. To ensure their safety, residents should watch for caution tape, fencing and hazard-marking cones that will be in place to keep people away from areas where work is in progress.

Upgrades to Towers common washrooms

Friday, May 1, 2020: Renovated Washrooms Update - Quality Assurance Work - 

Timeline: May 4 to 6 2020.
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm (except holidays).
Occasional Saturdays 9:00am to 5:00pm.
Scope of Work: As part of the quality assurance process, the contractors will be conducting some final adjustment and touch up work in the renovated washrooms.
Areas Effected: For these processes to occur, effected rooms will be closed for short periods of time.  At least one washroom on each floor will remain open at any given time.
Impact on Residents: Each washroom where work is in progress will be closed but alternate washrooms will be available in the other wing of the same floor and on the floor above or below. Residents should expect noise

In accordance with SFU's COVID-19 precautions, the contractors will follow appropriate physical distancing procedures.  As work is completed in each room, the contractors will disinfect all surfaces that they have touched in that room.

Window Coverings Upgrade

Replacement of curtains in common rooms.
Timeline:
 Fall 2019
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm (except holidays).
Occasional Saturdays 9:00am to 5:00pm.
Areas Effected: PJH Common lounges (3rd through 8th floors).
Impact on Residents: We plan to remove all of the existing curtains in the common lounges and replace them with new blinds.

Vac Attac Removing Gravel from Shell House Roof

Purpose: Vac Attack will commence removal of gravel from the roof of the Shell House Residence

Timeline: Friday July 9 - Wednesday July 14 

Hours of Work: 9:00am to 5:00pm

Areas Effected: Roof of Shell House

Impact on Residents:

  • Expect some noise. A large vacuum truck will be parked in front of the south wing of Shell House Residence. 
  • Normal hours of work will be 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday (except holidays).  If work occurs on Saturdays it will be between 10:00 am – 4:00 pm.

 

MECHANICAL ROOM UPGRADES

Purpose: Upgrading the mechanical rooms in all three towers.

Timeline: Summer 2021
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm (except holidays). Occasional Saturdays 9:00 am to 5:00pm.
Areas Effected: Mechanical rooms in PJH, BRH and SBH
Impact on Residents:

  • Residents may be exposed to some noise (intermittent and relatively minor)

UPGRADING RESIDENT ROOM LIGHTING 

Purpose: Upgrading the resident room lighting to LED fixtures in all three towers.

Timeline: Summer 2021
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm (except holidays). Occasional Saturdays 9:00 am to 5:00pm.
Areas Effected: Resident rooms in PJH, BRH and SBH
Impact on Residents:

  • Residents may be exposed to some noise (intermittent and relatively minor)

UPGRADING SBH HALL AND SHARED SPACE LIGHTING

Purpose: Upgrading the lighting in SBH hallways and shared spaces.

Timeline: Begins Friday, August 27
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm (except holidays). Occasional Saturdays 9:00 am to 5:00pm.
Areas Effected: SBH Hall and shared spaces
Impact on Residents:

  • Technicians will have equipment and ladders in hallways. 
  • Expect some noise. 
  • Installation will take place from 9:00am to 5:00pm.

Shell House

Replacement of Hallway and Stairwell Lighting With LED Lights

Purpose: To provide superior lighting and reduce energy consumption.

Timeline: Fall 2020/ Spring 2021
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm (except holidays).
Occasional Saturdays 9:00am to 5:00pm.
Areas Effected: Stairwells and Hallways of Shell House.
Impact on Residents: Residents may be exposed to relatively minor noise.

Exterior Maintenance

The first phase of this project, Restoration of the Exterior Caulking, has been completed.

This update refers to the second phase of the project, Restoration of Damaged Concrete on the Exterior of the Structure.

Timeline: Summer 2019
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm (except holidays).
Occasional Saturdays 9:00am to 5:00pm.
In rare cases work will continue past 5:00 pm but not later than dusk.
Areas Effected: Shell House exterior.
Impact on Residents: 

  • Some noise (intermittent), from chipping away the concrete in several areas where it is damaged
  • Workers will not enter any bedrooms. Access will be from outside (not through the building), using boom lift equipment.
  • All work, including the removal of hazardous materials, will be done according to WorkSafe BC and SFU Health & Safety regulations.
  • Workers will have dust control measures in place when removing damaged concrete. In addition, if they find windows open near an area where concrete removal is in progress, they will push them closed.
  • Entrance and exit routes will be modified at times. Please comply with all signage and barricades.

Main Entrance and Lobby Remodelling

Renewal of Shell House main entry lobby to provide a more welcoming environment with new signage, and lighting.

Timeline: May 2020 to end of November or early December 2020
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm (except holidays).
Occasional Saturdays 9:00am to 5:00pm

Scope of Work: This work includes the replacement of the main entrance doors, the glazing systems on both sides of the main entrance doors and the concrete walking surface immediately outside the doors, including the installation of a new recessed grate for wiping feet. The project also includes upgrades to the lighting immediately outside the main entrance doors.

Areas Effected: Main entry point to the building.

Impact on Residents:

  • Residents may be exposed to some noise (intermittent and relatively minor).
  • Entrance and exit routes will be modified at times. A temporary door will be set up immediately south of the existing door while work is in progress. Please comply with all signage and barricades.

Safety and Security:

  • Please comply with all signage and barricades.
  • Workers will follow COVID-19 precautions, insuring that physical distancing is maintained between the workers as well as between workers and the people entering and leaving the building.

Hamilton Hall

Drywall Repairs

Areas Affected: Drywall repairs to Hamilton Hall Lobby and 1st Floor West Corridor 

Timeline: Tuesday, February 16, 2021, to Tuesday, March 16, 2021. Hours of work: Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. 

Impact on Residents: Acess to the building will not be impacted, and residents of HAM may occasionally notice work noises at times. Workers will follow COVID-19 health and safety guidelines as mandated by WorkSafe BC and SFU.

McTaggart-Cowan Hall

Landscaping Improvements

Updating the space in front of McTaggart-Cowan Hall to provide a safer and more welcoming area for pedestrian traffic.
Timeline:
Fall 2018Summer 2019
Scope of Work: Removal of the old wooden retaining walls. Installation of a new concrete retaining wall with built-in benches installation of a boulder garden with extensive new planting, installation of railings along the ramps

Bedroom Window Coverings Upgrade

Installation of new roller blinds.
Timeline:
 Summer 2019 - Fall 2019.
Hours: Monday to Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm (except holidays).
Occasional Saturdays 9:00am to 5:00pm.
Areas Effected: All resident rooms in McTaggart Cowan Hall.
Impact on Residents: In occupied rooms, the work will be substantially completed in a single day per room so that the resident has window coverings in place each night.  We will send date-specific notices in advance of the work in each unit.

Exterior Building Maintenance and Cleaning

Timeline: Summer/Fall 2019
Hours:
Monday to Friday 8:00am to 5:00 pm (except holidays).
Occasional Saturdays 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

All resident rooms in McTaggart Cowan Hall
Impact on Residents:
Residents in the areas where work is in progress may occasionally notice workers right outside the window of their room. Residence should expect noise. Pedestrian routes will be disrupted at times. To ensure their safety, residents should watch for caution tape, fencing and hazard-marking cones that will be in place to keep people away from areas where work is in progress.

Reconstruction of Window Bays

Timeline: Saturday, May 30 2020

Hours: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Areas Effected: MCH 2207, 2213 4007, and 4217 

Impact on Residents: The contractors will be installing drywall in preparation for sanding and painting. Those residents adjacent to the above noted rooms may hear some drilling and banging.

West Campus Road and McTaggart Cowan residence road temporary closure

Timeline: June 2, 2020

Hours: 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. 

Areas Effected: The Residence lane between West Campus Road and McTaggart Cowan residence will be paved and temporarily closed 

 Re-Roofing of McTaggart-Cowan Hall

Project Title: Re-Roofing of McTaggart-Cowan Hall.

Timeline: June 22, 2020 to October, 2020.

Hours of Work: Construction around residences follows the city of Burnaby construction bylaws. Constructions hours will be as follows:

Scope of Work:

  • Removal and replacement of the entire roofing system of the building.
  • Improved insulation and other quality upgrades.

Areas Effected:

  • The entire roof area.
  • Defined access and disposal locations on the exterior of the building.
  • Residence Lane and Terry Fox Lane (for deliveries and debris removal).
  • Temporary Office, Sanitary Facilities and Storage Facilities have been set up in the reserved parking stalls northeast of the building (south of Shell House)

Impact on Residents:

  • Expect to hear some noise.
  • Pedestrian routes may be modified at times.
  • A disposal chute structure has been constructed outside the centre of the south side of the building.  This includes a platform extending straight out from the roof.  The disposal chute itself is a considerable distance away from the building, coming down to the edge of Terry Fox Lane.  A small number of trees and shrubs were removed to facilitate the construction of this temporary structure.

Safety and Security:

  • To ensure their safety, residents should watch for caution tape, construction fencing, signage and hazard-marking cones that will be in place to keep people away from areas where work is in progress and any danger exists.
  • All construction access will be via a temporary exterior stair towers.

 Re-Roofing of McTaggart-Cowan Hall

Project Title: Re-Roofing of McTaggart-Cowan Hall.

Timeline: May 25, 2021 to June 30, 2021.

Hours of Work: Construction around residences follows the city of Burnaby construction bylaws. Constructions hours will be as follows:

Scope of Work:

  • Removal and replacement of the center portion of the roofing system on the building.

Areas Effected:

  • The central portion of the roof 
  • Defined access and disposal location on the north side of the building. (see attached) 
  • Residence Lane and Terry Fox Lane (for deliveries and debris removal). 
  • Temporary Office, Sanitary Facilities and Storage Facilities will be set up in the reserved parking stalls northeast of the building (south of Shell House).

Impact on Residents:

  • Expect to hear some noise. 
  • Pedestrian routes may be modified at times. 
  • A disposal chute structure and stair tower will be constructed outside the west entrance on the north side of the building. This structure will be built starting May 25 2021.  The disposal chute itself is a considerable distance away from the building, coming down to the small parking area  just north of the west entrance. ( see attached )

  • All construction access will be via a temporary exterior stair tower. 

 Re-Roofing of McTaggart-Cowan Hall

Timeline: June 2021 to Aug 2021

Hours of Work: Construction around residences follows the city of Burnaby construction bylaws. Constructions hours will be as follows:

  • Monday-Friday: 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
  • Saturday: 9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m Burnaby Noise or Abatement, by-law: Number 7332 - page 5: 15.(1)

Areas Effected:

  • The southern roof area.
  • Defined access and disposal locations on the exterior of the building.
  • Residence Lane and Terry Fox Lane (for deliveries and debris removal).
  • Sanitary Facilities and Storage Facilities have been set up in the reserved parking stalls northeast of the building (south of Shell House)

Impact on Residents:

  • None as the building is empty

Townhouses

Roofing Modification Work on Squamish House

The purpose is to perform some minor roofing modification work that will be done along the peak of the roof of Squamish House.

Timeline: Monday, July 27 to mid-August.

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm (except holidays). Occasional Saturdays 9:00am to 5:00pm.

Scope of Work: to modify the shape of the roof above the three chimneys in order to address a weakness in the roofing design - rainwater will be directed around the chimneys more effectively.  Crews will access the top of the roof with an ariel boom lift.

Areas Effected: Top section of the roof of Squamish House.

Impact on Residents: 

  • Expect to hear some noise
  • Pedestrian routes may be modified at times

Safety and Security:

  • To ensure their safety, residents should watch for caution tape, barricades, signage and hazard-marking tape or cones that will be in place to keep people away from areas where work is in progress and any danger exists.
  • Workers will follow COVID-19 precautions, insuring that physical distancing is maintained between the workers as well as between workers and the people entering and leaving the building.

Purpose: This temporary water supply is required while crews make repairs and modifications to the main underground water supply piping. During this time please be mindful of the following:

Impact on Residents:

  • Occasionally notice a lower volume of water coming from the faucets or showers. This is due to the fact that the fire hoses have a smaller diameter than the regular water supply piping.
  • If you notice that the quality of the water changes at any time, please run the water until it clears up.
  • Fire hoses will be running along the ground in various locations as part of this project and they will cross the breezeway near the entrance to each of the towers (SBH, BRH, and PJH) and a hose will cross in front of the main entrance of HAM.

Window Coverings Upgrade

Installation of new roller blinds.
Timeline:
 Summer 2019 - Fall 2019.
Hours: Monday to Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm (except holidays).
Occasional Saturdays 9:00am to 5:00pm.
Areas Effected: All rooms in the Townhouses
Impact on Residents: In occupied rooms, the work will be substantially completed in a single day per room so that the resident has window coverings in place each night.  We will send date-specific notices in advance of the work in each unit.

Excavation Work: East of Cowichan Townhouse

Contractors under the direction of SFU Mechanical Services will be digging to locate a natural gas line. This work is necessary in order to satisfy safety code requirements.

Timeline: Starting Monday, Septemeber 16th, it could take from two days to two weeks to complete.
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday 8:00am to 4:00pm.
Areas Effected: Exterior of Cowichan Townhouse
Impact on Residents:

  • Pedestrian routes will be disrupted at times. 
  • The stairs between the laundry room and West Campus Road will be closed at times. Residents can detour around the west end of the building.
  • To ensure their safety, residents should watch for and comply with all barricades, signage and verbal or written instructions related to this project.

Exterior Repair: Repainting And Building Enclosure Rehabilitation 

Various repairs and upgrades to the exterior of the buildings, concluding with a complete repaint, as well as the installation of new gutters

Timeline: Summer 2018 – Summer 2020.
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm (except holidays).
Occasional Saturdays 9:00am to 5:00pm.
Areas Effected: Exteriors of all nine Townhouse buildings.
Impact on Residents:

  • Varying amounts of noise and dust will be produced. 
  • Pedestrian routes will be disrupted at times.  
  • Some of the work will occur directly outside the windows of the units, or on the top-floor balcony. 
  • Workers will not enter any townhouse units during the course of the work, except under exceptional circumstances, and then only following advance written notice. 
  • Throughout the course of the project, no non-essential work will occur during final exams periods, nor on move-out or move-in days. 
  • To ensure their safety, residents should watch for and comply with all barricades, signage and verbal or written instructions related to this project.

Kitimat Landscaping Repair

Timeline: August 2019 – October 2019
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm (except holidays).
Occasional Saturdays 9:00am to 5:00pm.
Scope of Work: The project will include a retaining wall, new stairs, railings and a new asphalt surface on the pathway in the area.  It will also include the installation of new soil and various new plants in the restored border areas.
Areas Effected:
 Access to the Kitimat Laundry room will be blocked at times. Residents should be advised to use the laundry room in either Kimberley House or Kelowna House as an alternate when required.
Impact on Residents: 

  • Pedestrian routes will be disrupted - alternate routes will be well marked.
  • To ensure their safety, residents should watch for and comply with all barricades, signage and verbal or written instructions related to this project.

Work on Porches of Squamish House

Timeline: June 3 - June 18, 2020

Hours of Work: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday to Friday, except holidays.  Work may occasionally occur on Saturdays, between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM.

Scope of Work: Contractors will be applying a waterproof membrane to the surface of the porches.  The product is applied like paint and it is very important not to walk on the freshly-applied product until it has cured.

Areas Effected: The porches outside the unit front doors. 

Impact on Residents: Access will be limited to half of the width of each front door for a period of approximately one week.

Broiler Replacement

Timeline: Summer 2021

Hours of Work: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday to Friday, except holidays.  Work may occasionally occur on Saturdays, between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM.

Scope of Work: The replacement of the broilers.

Areas Effected: The broiler units in SQU QUE QUA and COW

Impact on Residents: 

  • To ensure their safety, residents should watch for and comply with all barricades, signage and verbal or written instructions related to this project.

Charles Chang Innovation Centre

Installation Of New Parking Gate

Addition of gates and fencing across the parking area to restrict access and increase safety. 

Timeline: June 2019 - August 2019 
Hours: Normal hours of work will be 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday to Friday (except holidays)
Areas Effected: South (back alley) entrance of SFU Residence at the Chang Centre 
Impact on Residents: 

  • Noise
  • Work will occur outside of the building 
  • Temporary access and egress routes with way finding signage will be in place as required
  • Please watch for caution tape and hazard making cones what will be in place to keep people away from areas where work is in progress
