Discover the news of the Office of Francophone and Francophile Affairs (OFFA) at Simon Fraser University (SFU) as well as everything else that is happening in French at SFU! Happy reading and a great school year to all!

What's new at OFFA?

The Office of Francophone and Francophile Affairs at SFU is pleased to welcome 3 new employees to complete and enrich its dynamic team!

Monica Tang as Coordinator - French L2 Identity Framework. In this position, Monica Tang will provide identity support to students, student-teachers and French teachers (FSL, Immersion and CSF) as well as professional development on identity issues related to learning and teaching French in a minority setting.

Tia Mortimer as Administrative Assistant (temporarily replacing Katrina Clément on maternity leave). Tia is a graduate of the French Cohort Program and in this position, she will provide administrative, budgetary and office management support to OFFA.

Aliyah Datoo as Recruitment and Student Life Assistant. Aliyah is also a graduate of the French Cohort Program and a Master's student in Political Science at SFU. She will be assisting the team with student recruitment and student life programming.

Raclette feast, DJ, musical performance by Missy D... More than 150 of you took part in the Back-to-school French Fête on Friday, September 9th on the Burnaby campus!

We thank you for your participation and look forward to seeing you at our future events. We would also like to thank Radio-Canada Colombie-Britannique as well as our other partners and collaborators who made this event festive and memorable.

SFU POLITICAL SCIENCE CONGRATULATES TIMOTHY VAN DEN BRINK ON HIS SSHRC DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP

When Ph.D. student Timothy van den Brink learned that he had been awarded an SSHRC Doctoral Fellowship of $20,000 per year for four years, he knew he could now focus full-time on his academic research. With Supervisor Professor Rémi Léger, van den Brink is examining language politics in Canada.

“Our first project is investigating the road maps and action plans used by the current and past federal governments to shape the discussion of language governance and set the tone for future policy,” he says. “

THE IMPORTANCE OF THE MATERIAL WORLD IN OUR IDENTITY CONSTRUCTION

Magali Forte, a student in the Languages, Cultures and Literacies doctoral program, was interviewed by Radio-Canada to talk about her thesis entitled Agencements sociomatériels et relations dans diverses écologies d'enseignement et d'apprentissage en contexte de réconciliation.

BELGIAN MOVIE NIGHT WITH THE EMBASSY OF BELGIUM IN CANADA: "UNE VIE DÉMENTE" | TONIGHT: OCTOBER 5, 2022 AT 7 P.M.

The Embassy of Belgium to Canada and OFFA invite you to a Belgian movie night and to the screening of the movie Une Vie démente (in French with English subtitles) as part of the Ambassador's visit to Vancouver. It is free and there are still a few tickets available.

«J'ENSEIGNE EN FRANÇAIS» CONFERENCE | FEBRUARY 17, 2023

This professional development day is for all educators who see themselves in a "J'enseigne en français" context in British Columbia! Save the date. Details of the program will be available online shortly.

PRINTEMPS DE LA FRANCOPHONIE | MARCH 2023

Le Printemps de la francophonie will be back in March 2023! With a rich program of cultural, academic and professional activities, the PDLF is also an opportunity to create and strengthen ties with the community.
