Guided campus tours in French

When? All year round

For whom? ideal for students in grades 10 to 12 in French Immersion, Francophone and Core French programs

Guided tours of the SFU Burnaby campus are a great way to get familiar with the university environment and postsecondary studies in French in British Columbia.  The tours are free. The duration and program of each tour can be personalized depending on what you are interested in (history of SFU, meetings with students, visits to buildings and classrooms, etc.).

Science in Action - Free science workshops in French

When? September - June

For whom? K to 12 students in French Immersion or Francophone programs

SFU's Faculty of Sciences offers a new series of science activities and presentations in French. Workshops are delivered at the SFU Burnaby campus during regular classroom hours.

NEW: The Ethics Bowl

When? Registration in Fall – Event in February 2020

For whom? Grades 9 to 12 students in French Immersion or Francophone programs

An Ethics Bowl is both a collaborative and competitive team event, in which grade 9 to 12 students study, imagine, criticize, and compare stances and argumentative strategies, within an educationally-enhanced debate structure. For the first time this year, a French version of the British Columbia Ethics Bowl will be held in February 2020 at SFU’s Burnaby campus.

National Essay Contest

When: From October 1st to December 20, 2019

For whom: Grade 10 to 12 students registered in a French program (French First Language or French Second Language)

For the first time this year, OFFA and SFU’s Department of French will offer two $2,500 bursaries as part of the National Essay Contest organized by French for the Future.

SFU French Fête SFU

When? Early March

For whom? Ideal for groups of grade 8 to 12 students

The SFU French Fête is organized by the OFFA and is part of the Printemps de la francophonie, a big celebration of the Francophonie in all its forms.  On the agenda are usually musical entertainment, exhibitors from the Francophone community, guided tours of the Burnaby campus (optional), treasure hunts, prize draws and much more!

French for the Future - Local Forum

When? Friday April 24, 2020

For whom? Ideal for groups of grade 9 to 12 students in French Immersion and Francophone programs

The Vancouver Local Forum is organized by French for the Future, in partnership with the OFFA, to bring together students in grades 9 to 12 for a whole day of activities in French. Thanks to members and artists of the Francophone community, students can discover and learn about the cultural and professional advantages of being bilingual.  It's also an occasion for students with French as a second language to mingle with students with French as a first language and celebrate the Francophonie!

SFU Summer Camps in French

When? July and August

For whom? Youth 6-13 years old – beginner to advanced French

SFU Camps offers camps in French that are both educational and fun! Two levels are available: introduction to French and for French Immersion and French-as-a-first-language.
