Diving safety

SFU personnel and students who participate in SCUBA diving or snorkeling activities as part of their research, occupation or instruction must be registered in the SFU Scientific Diving Program. Before undertaking diving activities under university auspices, they must have received authorization to dive/snorkel from the University Diving Safety Officer.

Program Manual

All diving under university auspices must be conducted in a manner that will minimize risk to and provide adequate protection for divers from accidental injury or illness. The requirements and training for competency of divers and the procedures in scientific diving /snorkeling operations are set out in the SFU Diving Safety Manual. Divers and snorkelers must have an up-to-date copy of this manual and need to understand the relevance of the various sections to their own planned diving activities.
