Climate Disaster Project
About the Project
Eyes of the Beast is a multidisciplinary theatre production created by Neworld Theatre in partnership with the Climate Disaster Project, in association with the SFU School for the Contemporary Arts, and supported by Simon Fraser University. This bold and timely piece explores the emotional and environmental toll of climate catastrophe through the lens of lived experience. Drawing from investigative storytelling and devised performance, the project centers voices of those directly impacted by climate disaster—foregrounding personal narratives that reveal the psychological, cultural, and systemic dimensions of crisis.
Blending documentary theatre, climate journalism, and visual design, Eyes of the Beast creates an immersive, thought-provoking space for reflection, witness, and dialogue. The production serves not only as a creative response to climate grief and resilience but also as a platform for community engagement and social awareness. By amplifying underrepresented perspectives, the project invites audiences to confront the climate emergency with empathy and urgency.
Eyes of the Beast has been featured in both Megaphone Magazine and the Vancouver Sun, highlighting its powerful impact on community dialogue around environmental justice and climate action.
Research Assistant: Morgan Krakow
Morgan Krakow is a Master’s student at Simon Fraser University whose work explores the intersection of storytelling, community, and climate action. She contributed to Eyes of the Beast, a powerful verbatim theatre production centered on environmental justice and lived experience. Morgan developed an audience survey to assess the play’s impact—early results show it inspired viewers to take greater climate action. She also researched and conceptualized a newsletter for the project, currently in development, to sustain engagement and share updates. Morgan contributions demonstrate how creative communication can drive public awareness and meaningful change.
