How can researchers use creative methods to reach beyond academic journals and connect with broader audiences? Join the SFU Community-Engaged Research Initiative (CERi), the SFU Knowledge Mobilization Hub, and the UBC Public Humanities Hub for a four-part, hands-on workshop series exploring creative approaches to knowledge mobilization. Designed for researchers, graduate students, practitioners, and community partners, this series will introduce practical skills for translating research into engaging, accessible, and impactful public-facing formats. Grounded in the principles of community-engaged research, public humanities, and knowledge mobilization, each workshop will explore how creative methods can strengthen relationships with communities, make research more accessible, and support meaningful public engagement. Participants will learn directly from experienced practitioners while gaining practical skills they can apply to their own research, teaching, and community partnerships.

Community-engaged research draws on a rich diversity of methods because it reflects the diverse knowledge, priorities, cultures, and lived experiences of communities. Through examples and case studies, this workshop will explore approaches such as participatory action research, storytelling, arts-based inquiry, community mapping, peer research, and Indigenous methodologies. Participants will consider how different methods can support meaningful participation, shared knowledge creation, and research that responds to community priorities and contexts.
