Is the new program still aligned with the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) and Project Management Professional (PMP) designations?
Yes, SFU is an authorized training partner with PMI, the Project Management Institute. The new program content is aligned with the latest project management certification standards and the PMBOK Guide 8th edition.
Do I need to reapply to the program if I enrolled before November 2025?
No. If you are already enrolled in the program, you can:
- Complete the previous version of the program by finishing all courses by spring 2026, OR
- Complete the previous version of the program by applying some new courses to your program according to the course equivalencies above (note that PMC150 and PMC165 have no equivalents in the new program and will not be offered after spring 2026), OR
- Complete the new version of the program by applying previous courses according to the equivalencies above. In May 2026, your student account will be updated with both previous and new course options for program completion.
How long do I have to complete the previous program?
You have until spring 2026 to complete the previous program with all its original courses. After that time, the previous courses will not be offered.
From May 2026 onward, you may apply previous courses to the new version of the program according to the equivalencies above.
If I’ve already taken some Project Management courses but haven’t applied to the program, can my courses count toward the new program?
All previous courses except PMC150 and PMC165 can apply to the new program according to the equivalencies above.
If you apply to the new program in May 2026 and have successfully passed previous courses, we will assess your progress and grant you course exemptions for any requirements that you have already fulfilled.
Can I receive the new microcertificate using course equivalencies from the previous program?
As a new credential, the microcertificate requires completion of:
- PMC 250: Project Leadership and Team Management
- PMC 260: Leading Agile Projects
- PMC 270: Technology and AI in Projects
You may apply for an exemption for either PMC250 or PMC270 (one course only) if you have completed the equivalencies for that course.
