Statistical emulation of Greenland Ice Sheet dynamics

The Greenland Ice Sheet has the potential to cause damaging sea level rise and impact global ocean circulation. However, existing computational tools are not able to predict the probability of all the possible reactions the ice sheet may have to warming air and ocean temperatures. My research combines statistical models with computational simulations to predict the future state of the Greenland Ice Sheet under a range of climate change scenarios. The statistical methods will allow us to calculate the probability of each future ice sheet response. These probabilities will identify the most likely scenario, as well as the probability of higher, more damaging sea level rise scenarios that are important for policy makers to plan for.
