Volatile Geochemistry of the Garibaldi Volcanic Belt
Since the Early Pleistocene the Garibaldi Volcanic Belt has been extensively glaciated resulting in more than 50% of the volcanoes in the belt having interacted with ice during eruptive events. This has created ideal conditions for the quenching of erupted volcanic materials, where melt inclusions preserve a snapshot of the pre-eruptive conditions and eruption dynamics.
My research will employ Raman spectroscopy and microthermometry to investigate the geochemistry and evolution of the volatiles in the subglacial mafic volcanic deposits of the Garibaldi Volcanic Belt through melt inclusions.
