“Reconstructing Plio-Pleistocene sedimentary environments in Taiwan’s Western Foreland Basin”

My MSc project at Simon Fraser examines shallow-marine sedimentary outcrops from the Plio-Pleistocene Western Foreland Basin of Taiwan, and uses stratigraphic and sedimentological interpretations to reconstruct how the ancient environment changed through time. I will log the outcrops and examine sedimentary characteristics for clues into past geography (distance to shore and depth below sea level) and sedimentary systems (e.g. beach, lower shoreface). This research will contribute to understanding how basin evolution affected its depositional environments.
