The Department of Political Science has recently updated its internal policy regarding SFU’s Elective Grade Policy. Our Department is committed to helping students overcome the many challenges created by the ongoing pandemic.

If you have questions or concerns about the Elective Grade System, the university has academic advisors who can help: https://www.sfu.ca/students/support/academic-policies-and-procedures/elective-grade-sys.html

If you have questions specific to our policies (see below), please contact our Undergraduate Advisor (poladv@sfu.ca)

* POL Major/Extended Minor/Joint Majors:
    - Students who choose the Elective Grade System for a program requirement must obtain a P in the course to apply the credit to their program for completion. Students in this program cannot choose the Elective Grade System for POL 484.

* POL Honours
    - Students who choose the Elective Grade System for a program requirement must obtain a P in the course to apply the credit to their program for completion. Students in this program cannot choose the Elective Grade System for POL 490, POL 499 & POL 484.

* POL Minor
    - Students who choose the Elective Grade System for a program requirement must obtain a P or CR in the course to apply the credit to their program for completion. Students in this program cannot choose the Elective Grade System for POL 484.

  • WQB requirements can be met using the Elective Grade System so long as a P grade is earned in the relevant course(s).
  • If the course isn't a program requirement, then the student would get credit towards completion of their degree if they obtained a CR or P.

More details on exclusions to the Elective Grading System can be found here: https://www.sfu.ca/students/support/academic-policies-and-procedures/elective-grade-sys/list-of-exceptions.html
