Research Audio/Visual Specialist — Reimagining the Public University Symposium – HUB Cycling Evaluation Project
Location: On-site at symposium venues; some remote post-production possible
Duration: March 12 - May 12, 2026
Position Type: Approximately 8-10 hours per week
Compensation: $32 per hour
Application Deadline: March 8th, 2026
About the Symposium
In a context of overlapping global and institutional crises — including climate emergency, democratic instability, rapid technological change, and widening social inequities — Canadian universities face both a profound challenge and a generational opportunity.
Reimagining the Public University in a Time of Polycrisis: A National Dialogue convenes scholars, students, community leaders, policymakers, and practitioners to examine how universities can respond to this moment and renew their role as public institutions serving the common good.
Following the symposium, CERi will produce knowledge mobilization outputs to ensure that the ideas, insights, and recommendations generated inform public dialogue, policy conversations, and future collaborations across sectors.
About CERi
The Community Engaged Research Initiative (CERi) at Simon Fraser University supports partnerships between community organizations, researchers, and the public to co-create knowledge that is ethical, reciprocal, and grounded in community priorities. CERi advances knowledge mobilization practices that make research accessible, relevant, and impactful beyond the university.
Job Overview:
CERi is seeking an Audio/Visual Specialist to capture and produce multimedia content from an upcoming symposium. The successful candidate will record high-quality video and audio in a fast-paced conference environment and edit the materials into a short 3–5-minute video “mini-documentary” or teaser for a subsequent podcast series. This role is ideal for a graduate student with experience in video production, multimedia storytelling, and event coverage.
Key Responsibilities:
Event Capture
- Record video and audio of symposium sessions, panels, and key moments.
- Ensure high-quality capture in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Work efficiently to cover multiple sessions or activities as needed.
Post-Production
- Edit captured material into a concise 3–5-minute video suitable for public audiences.
- Incorporate subtitles, graphics, and other elements as needed to enhance accessibility and engagement.
- Collaborate with CERi staff to ensure the video aligns with the symposium’s messaging and tone.
Equipment & Technical Support
- Utilize your own professional-grade audio/visual equipment (camera, microphones, lighting, etc.) where possible. CERi can provide support with equipment or technical materials if needed.
- Troubleshoot technical challenges on-site to ensure smooth recording.
Required Qualifications
- Experience capturing and editing video and audio content in event or conference settings.
- Proficiency with video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve).
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and storytelling sensibility for creating engaging public-facing content.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience producing short-form documentary-style videos or promotional teasers.
- Familiarity with higher education, research, or community-engaged events.
- Demonstrated ability to capture diverse voices and perspectives in multimedia formats.
How to apply:
Applicants must submit:
Form survey in lieu of a cover letter
Curriculum vitae (CV)
- Sample of previous audio/visual work (e.g., short video, documentary, or event coverage)
Application Deadline: The closing date for applications is March 8th, 2026
